I have a new blog on tumblr that has a broadly defined pop-culture focus. I'm going to keep this as a space to vent about personal thoughts as they arise. First two posts of new blog suggest a heavy metal bias which is something I'm entirely comfortable with =)

I had a conversation with a friend today about whether The Gaslight Anthem were punk. I don't know enough about the band to defend their supposed punk status but it did get me thinking about what I counted as punk rock. This is the sort of song that gets stuck in my head when it's late at night and the world feels a bit off-kilter. I'd love to sing this at a karaoke bar all out of tune. Sadly there isn't a karaoke machine on this big blue planet with a Mark Eitzel song on it.

All I knew before watching this movie, Spike Lee’s first film, was that this was the picture that gave the world Lee’s Mars Blackmon character. I expected a broad comedy, more screwball than slapstick but still silly.
