Help! We have to make a trip to London this weekend, and I just found out that my husband's work isn't making our travel arrangements other than buying the Eurostar tickets. I haven't been to London in 6 years, so I'm making a last-minute plea to those "in the know" like trystbat for hotel & restaurant recommendations and "must see" sightseeing for the

We recently stayed at the Morgan Hotel in Bloomsbury, very near the British Museum. Reasonable rates, excellent breakfast. Ask about their flats, which I believe have kitchenettes & are bigger, a good deal. The regular hotel doubles are small, but typical for a London hotel in that price range. Good Indian restaurant nearby called Malabar Junction

Have your kids been to London before? I'd take them to some of the interesting neighborhoods - Camden etc. (Camden market they'd probably like). Probably too last minute, but we rented a flat last time from "A Place Called Home" and loved it -- tons of space.

I also like the Museum of London - they recently redid their medieval wing and it was very good. Some costumes interspersed throughout, plus I think it's general enough that your kids would be interested.

Thanks guys! I'm gonna get right on the phone with the Morgan Hotel. It looks awesome. The traditional British breakfast is a fun bonus! It will be a fun whirlwind weekend since it is the first time to England for the kids and J. And honestly, I think my hubby is ready for the relief of being in an English speaking city! :)

The Museum of London is undergoing another huge renovation, & everything *but* the medieval wing is closed thru, iirc, 2010. Pity bec. I looooved the recreated 20th c. rooms! Check the website for details.

I always went for tea at Libertys in London. Their needlework department is great & the Tudor style 1880's building is fun.

Its rather expensive, but there is also the Court Clothing exhibit at Kensington Palace. I think this is a permanent exhibit. (I admit, I just went into the store & bought postcards of the dresses).

Not right now -- Kensington has an exhibit of Princess Diana's dresses (about 6, iirc) & a setup about 'the last debutantes' of 1958, & in the state rooms there are maybe 3 outfits of 18th-c. clothing. But the park is lovely for strolling.
