35 degrees! What is this madness?

Spent yesterday and the night before quite sick. Doing better today, although woke this morning with a massive headache; some tea seems to have helped so I was probably dehydrated and/or needed some caffeine or something. Back also hurts but that's probably from sleeping on the couch. (Because that's where one sleeps when one is sick ( Read more... )

I am so head-over-heels right now for Merlin. I started watching it for Anthony Head who plays Uther Pendragon, but now I am in love with EVERYONE. And I'm not an ensemble cast kind of person; normally ladies aren't written well enough for me (HARUMPH).

I think I'm in love with it right now because it's become my treat, though. The first two seasons are on Hulu and I watch one episode after working in the studio for eight hours straight or something. But I've been reading a lot of fic about it, and have been loling non-stop at macros of it or whatever, which is completely unprecedented. I am going with the explanation of "Senior year has melted my brain and it's very important to read slash to counter it."

Very Important.

YOU READ FANFIC NOW? AWWWW.

You know, I've heard good things about Merlin but somehow haven't gotten into it yet. (Even though I loooooooove Anthony Head.)

I hear you on female characters, though. WOMEN ARE PEOPLE, TOO, WRITERS. PLEASE WRITE THEM AS SUCH KTHX.

SHHH DON'T TELL MY MOM.

I'd recommend it. I watch it while I'm working, though, so I can look down and ignore the dorky bits and look up for the hardcore bromance and adorable Anthony bits. I am a selective watcher.

It was 39 here today! WHOO HOO!

Your all ears joke totally cracked me up.

I've had insta love for Claudia (insta devotion followed after I saw that her and Artie's banter was regular fixture)

I also had insta love for Jordan on the show Crossing Jordan. I am STILL pissed that NBC has only released the first season on DVD. It's good but the next 6 are epic...

Hope you feel better soon!

Yeah, it's supposed to stay above freezing here for . . . well, until Friday, when I guess it drops back to the single digits. Sigh.

Haha, I stole it from a Bruce Coville book I read repeatedly as a child. Became part of my standard repertoire.

I sorta liked Claudia in her first ep but it wasn't until I saw them snarking at each other in "Relics" that I was like "Hells to the yeah." I think she cemented WH13 as a favorite, though, just because she really helped form that family dynamic that I love so much.

Thanks.

Humor is the sure thing for grabbing me into something - it doesn't need to *be* a comedy, but if something has no comedic elements whatsoever, it's not gonna click.

Also, an ensemble cast isn't a necessity...but it helps. As I point out, it's not a matter of having 6 characters instead of 2, because that's 4 more characters - it's a matter of having not *one* relationship to explore, but *thirty*. Or whatever the numbers work out too. Shows with just one or two leads, even if they're really good, they just don't capture my interest as much (see: White Collar).

I agree there. Even if a character catches my attention, I really can't get truly into something without lulz. It's not even comic relief I'm looking for--I think I see the world as a funny place, even when it sucks, and I have trouble connecting to a world where there is no humor whatsoever? Or something?

I hear that, too, although it's not as essential for me. But I will say, that's why I prefer (for example) multiple Tardis companions rather than just Rose-and-the-Doctor or whatnot. I like the multiple relationships.

Plus, even if your story is really dark/sad/whatever, having moments of humor can actually make it *more* dark/sad/whatever, because you're going from a higher point to a low point, instead of just having a flat line at "despair" (See: Torchwood: Children of Earth.)

I totally prefer multiple Tardis companions for exactly that reason, though Doctor Who is one of the shows where I like it in spite of its small cast. I think it's partly because, even when they're doing just-one-Companion-times, they're really good at developing their guest characters (and even with the one-companion runs, they're are some recurring characters - I ♥ Jackie to death and back).

Very, very true. One of the worst deaths in Harry Potter, for example, was for precisely that reason.

True! Even old-skool Who did a good job with guest characters a lot of time, and continued that fine tradition.
