Mt Mitchell in the mist

My first attempt at Mount Mitchell was kind of thwarted by the weather. But on the way down (once we got beneath the clouds) it was stunning. [Highest point east of the Mississippi and south of Canada at 6,684 ft)

Howdy Hey! You were right in my neighborhood! I drove to the top on Saturday and it was covered in hoarfrost and absolutely breathtaking!

If you're ever in my neighborhood, you have to come say hello.

Thanks - I'd like that. It is tougher to get to Mt M. from Asheville now, with the Parkway closed off to the north of us. I should be back up there in the next few weeks.

Yeah, I noticed it was closed off from the South...how did you get up there? Was it not closed then?

And I should let you know, since you are one of the few regional lj friends on my list, that this weekend is the Studio Tour for my neck of the woods. If you aren't out hiking, you could try to make it out this way. There are SO MANY incredible artists out here! And it's a great way to support the local economy. And of course, I'm in the Tour! I'm also the southernmost studio on the map, so I'm not expecting many visitors. Those that come will be cherished and treated well! ;)

had to go all the way up to Marion and then over to the Parkway. Came back through Little Switzerland. It is still closed (I think for the winter) but it isn't that bad of a drive.

You are talking about the Toe River Studio Tour right? #428? I just printed off the map and I actually think that might be a great thing to plan a trek around. are there any other artists that you would recommend - I don't have a lot of disposable income right now - but I like buying local. what do you know about the hellbendre press? we are looking at creating a book (or 2)for some friends up north and trying to figure out our local options. (I like pretty much all art forms - pottery, glass, paint. I don't really get into jewelry or super *crafty* stuff I guess).
