I feel for you! Hope they can squeeze you in soon. My dad had one of his top front teeth fall out of his head this week by the Home Depot parking lot. It was a capped tooth, and unbeknownst to anyone, including himself, the nerve had gotten infected and bacteria built up, decaying and weakening the tooth. He heard a little pop, then felt something in his mouth amiss. The tooth had fallen out, with ugly blackness on the end. Luckily the dentist fit him in. He had to have a root canal, the rot cleared away, some drilling, a metal rod put in where his tooth used to be, then a cap put over that. It sounds ghastly, but he said it wasn't too terrible ( ... )

Ouch! Your dad's troubles really do sound painful - kind of puts mine in perspecctive. My mom said they might just cap mine, but I have a feeling it will be more efficient, economically and functionally, to just yank it. It is, as you say, disposable; once I have a real job, I plan to get braces to fix my weird sticky-outy teeth and that will make room for the worst one to get back in line. The part that came out actually did look a bit icky, but what I can see of what's left doesn't look so bad, so I don't know. (Sorry, haven't had that dream. Never had the "showing up to school naked" dream either, and everyone supposedly has those, so I'm kind weird I guess.)
