Nanny LJ strikes again

So LJ has a new "protect the kiddies" feature for people to abuse. A flagging system is like setting out a giant dish of troll bait for any petty person (or group) who disagrees with anyone else.

At least they made it so that you don't have to have the year displayed. Not ideal, but better than an all or nothing birthdate option.

Yeah, I finally found that option. For a while I thought I had to be yearless and deal with everything cut, or make the date invisible altogether, which seriously pissed me off.

I agree with you. And when I looked at my settings, I thought "What does LJ consider adult content? I curse in my journal--does that mean I have adult content? Or is that restricted to the sort of Pornish Pixies-ish stuff that caused the last brouhaha? Some guidelines would be damned helpful, here!

Exactly. My flist is arguably part of my journal, and all sorts of stuff shows up in torchwood. What if I link to fic or discussion? It's like they didn't realize anyone would have a problem with this, or that it wouldn't make as perfect sense to others as it did to them. Or, more cynically, it was purposely confusing and crazy-making to distract from the sale.

GJ seems to be managing things only slightly better than LJ at the moment. Heh. I just got a heads-up from my flist that Greatest Journal made an official news announcement telling people to sign up to IJ instead, because GJ's servers weren't handling the influx of new users well. *facepalm*
