Is both an option? Have the stripe skirt for pictures and the floof for dancing?

What if, instead of a tailored stripe, you bought the foofy skirt and added brown ribbons the full length of the skirt, evenly spaced around the skirt but attached only at the waist band? They would move wonderfully when you twirled, be more visible than sewn down stripes, and be easy to remove when you wanted to use the skirt for something else? I also think they would add to the impression of a Browncoat swirling around, as Mal's does.

I was going to suggest some sort of belt a la Mal with ribbons or something hanging from the sides (in my head I have chainette, but ribbon would work better probably).

Or, khaki tights with a brown stripe down them under a petal style slit to the waist full skirt.... it would flow, spin nicely and you would get the tightpants effect....

Perhaps I'm overthinking this, but Mal was a very "low maintenance" kinda guy. Simple clothes, simple colors, no foofaraw. His pants were, my friends and I think, most likely his issue pants. Even when he dressed up he seem uncomfortable.

I'd say stick to something like the second choice if you want to be a fem version of Mal.

Good luck with whatever you go with though.

I should have said that when he was dressed up (in Shindig) he seemed uncomfortable, not even when.

if you can make your own floofy skirt, maybe make a thin brown panel on each side. then add a belt with a holster or something?
