Christmas Mayhem || 01.12.13

#1

You gotta be fucking kidding me.

“No, no, no no no no!” Yoochun clicked refresh button for another thousand times, but no matter how many times he reloaded the page, the red huge writing stayed the same.

SOLD OUT.

“FUCK!” Yoochun groaned and clawed at his hair, ignoring the fact he had several heads on the internet cafe turned to stare at him for making ruckus. “Fuuuuuuucck my life!”

To be fair, he was only 3 seconds late. 3 fucking seconds.

And it wasn’t even his fault! He had been sitting in front of the computer 6 hours ago, since his shift started at the internet cafe he worked at, and just because…

...that bloody so-called best friend of his, Junsu…

Yoochun has no freaking idea why Junsu would choose to pop up at the cafe after not bothering his life for 3 consecutive days just 5 minutes before the concert ticket goes on sale and demands Yoochun to pay attention to his whining about the newest guy in his countless number of boyfriends and FOR GOD’S SAKE has to kick on the electric plug, causing his computer to completely shut.

Hence the 3 seconds tardiness.

Hence the sold out concert tickets.

Hence spending Christmas at home sulking because he couldn’t go watch the musical love of his life on stage with his rock band, singing his heart out, screaming to Yoochun’s favorite song and thrusting his hip to the mic stand.

HENCE he wouldn’t even get the chance to win the exclusive invitation for Mayhem’s New Year’s Eve fanparty that will be drawn from concert ticket numbers!!!

Fuck his life, right?

“Come on, Yoochunnieee, you’ve watched every single one of Mayhem’s concert anyway. Missing one wouldn’t hurt,” Junsu, his computer’s murderer, tried to reason. This time, the spoiled rich boy’s angelic face or the fact that his parents are the owner of this cafe Yoochun worked at failed to ease off Yoochun’s irritation.

“I hate you.”

Junsu gasped, eyes watering and lips trembling, but Yoochun knew all too well it was Junsu’s specialty to adapt to whatever circumstances presented to him in order to slip away from his responsibility. Fucking spoiled kid. “Y-Yoochunnie, you don’t mean that, do you?”

Oh, I mean every fucking letter, Yoochun wanted to reply, but then Junsu looked him in the eye, looking every bit like a kicked puppy and Yoochun...just….melted. Why the freaking hell is he so weak to this boy?!

“I’ll make it up to you Yoochunniieeee, I promise!” Junsu continued, trying to pull Yoochun into a hug over the desk.

Yoochun waved it away, noting he’ll buy tons of lemon ice cream on the way home then cry himself to sleep.

***

Most would probably wonder, what’s the deal with Park Yoochun and Mayhem, the rock band.

Let Junsu, the self-proclaimed best friend, give you a thorough explanation.

Why? Because Yoochun had relived this story a thousand times he even memorized it word by word.

Park Yoochun was only 15 when he first met the little spoiled Junsu, who just transferred into the school. The little prince, so the people addressed him to be, had been kicked out of his previous school yet again. No private schools for rich bastards were willing to accept Junsu as student anymore, thus his parents finally gave up and resort to normal, public school.

Junsu was beyond pissed.

He simply wanted to stop going to school, any kinds. Why is such request so hard to be fulfilled? He got everything he wanted since he was born, why can’t his parents grant this one wish of him?

And so...Junsu transferred to public school, and was seated next to this boy named Park Yoochun.

And for some strange reason, he was immediately attached to him.

Park Yoochun was a tough one. His parents were struggling, thus he had been solely depending on scholarships to continue on his study. Although even such heartfelt story failed to motivate Junsu to properly study, he was drawn to how hardworking Yoochun was. But being the devil child he is, Junsu’s first instinct was to break him.

Giving Yoochun a hard time wasn’t at all difficult, I mean, hey, Junsu had been giving everyone a hard time since he was born, so where’s the challenge in that? Yoochun, however, seemed unaffected. “If you don’t want to study, just skip class on your own,” Yoochun told him, all cold shoulder, when he threw origamis he folded to Yoochun’s table to distract him. “It’s not like anyone will miss you.”

Of course, it wasn’t that easy to get Junsu to give up. If he was going to get expelled again this time, he wants to at least make Yoochun cry. Just once.

He tried all kinds of pranks, from putting a bucket on top of the door to stealing Yoochun’s homework. Somehow Yoochun see right to him and never fall into his traps. Until one day, Junsu decided to tail Yoochun home to find what could make the boy break, a weakness, phobia, anything!

Daesung tried to talk him out, but he wouldn’t listen.

On the way to Yoochun’s house, they would pass a record store. Somehow, Yoochun would stop in front of it every day, looking at the window that displayed the newest music videos and newest albums. Junsu could hear the song blasting inside the store seeping out. Yoochun waited until the song was over, before continuing his walk. He did this every time Junsu followed him.

One day, Junsu decided to approach him. Instead of being angry, or giving him a cold shoulder, Yoochun smiled. It was the first time Yoochun ever smiled to him. “This guy,” he pointed to the window, at someone singing on the screen. “He used to be poor, too, singing from cafe to cafe. Now he had released his first album.”

Junsu watched the music video with Yoochun in silent, until the song was over and he spoke up. “Isn’t that a common story?”

“Well yeah,” Yoochun shrugged, “But I’ve met him once, when he was still singing around here, at a street corner, with an old guitar at hand. Even in such freezing weather, he smiled as he sang. I watched him for almost two hours until he noticed me, and bought me tea to warm my freezing hand.”

“You know him?”

“I don’t,” Yoochun shook his head. “But I remembered how he told me he was going to have his own band one day. He really did it.”

Junsu was quite confused.

Yoochun then turned to him, “Someday, I’m gonna catch up to him.”

Something changed in Junsu that day. Somehow, he felt like actually helping Yoochun catch up to that guy, whoever the dude was. Yoochun stopped being cold to him, and he stopped trying to break Yoochun. When Yoochun graduated high school, he gave him a part time job at one of his parents’ internet cafes.

And thus, when he accidentally kicked the plug and costed Yoochun his ticket...Junsu wished the world to swallow him whole.

And as he watched Yoochun sob into his pillow, he wondered, if it was this easy to make Yoochun cry, he should have done it years ago.

@kaivindictus [PLEASE RT] I’m looking for a Mayhem ticket, if anyone does have an extra, please mention me. Thank you.

@kaivindictus [PLEASE RT] Anyone have extra ticket for Mayhem concert and want to sell? Please DO mention me. Thank you.

Yoochun heaved a deep sigh.

Just this afternoon a sparkle of hope lit up inside him when Seungri mentioned that he knows someone selling her Mayhem ticket, but that hope was squashed out immediately. The ticket was sold just before he could even contact her. Same case had happened to the ticket he was supposed to buy to one of his followers, but sadly, she had to give it up for a friend.

No, don’t lose hope. I have, at least a week or so, to find one.

So since then, he'd been posting messages on different forum boards and all SNS he could think of, trying his luck to get his own ticket, but it seemed that luck wasn't on his side lately.

“I’m sorry, Yooch hyung.” Seungri said but he waved it off with a little smile and replied, “Not your fault Ri, I’m just a little slow today.” But the dork insist he would still ask around, and it made him feel a little at ease.

@kaivindictus [PLEASE RT GUYS] LOOKING FOR 1 MAYHEM TICKET! Any seat is fine with me!! Thank you!!

He almost typed about doubling the price of the ticket, but that would be his last resort. When he was really really desperate, and when the concert date is just a few days away. But hopefully, it would not come to that.

Last night, Interpark opened the ticket sales for Mayhem's Encore Christmas Concert, but he was not able to purchase one for it was sold out immediately. Although he wasn't the only one who didn't get a ticket, he just couldn't let this concert pass. An exclusive fanparty was announced along with the Encore concert, and to be able to win a free entry for that he really needs to get his own ticket.

Dream Motion Entertainment said that they would draw 30 random lucky winners from people who would purchase the tickets! So he really really needed to get one, like, right now.

But but but...!!!

Sighing, he looked over the tabs he left open in case someone replies on his messages but no one has answered him so far, no calls or text messages even.

Yoochun had been a fan of Mayhem, the most famous rock band on this country, since they first debuted. Yoochun would like to praise himself by thinking he was probably the first fan Mayhem had ever had, aside from the members’ moms perhaps. And he had been crushing on Jaejoong, the vocalist, since like...the first second he laid his eyes on him. Yoochun liked to think he had been by Mayhem’s side the longest, loving them when no one even knew their name 5 years ago.

Still loving them now that they are on the top of the world.

Someone is definitely at fault in this. Yeah, he's half-blaming his crazy gamer best friend Junsu for this misfortune, if only Junsu hadn't come just a few minutes before the ticket sales opens, he would have been able to get his own Mayhem ticket. But ignoring Junsu is a no-no, he'd rather fake interest than get his sorry ass fired.

Then as though knowing he’s thinking about him, a sudden message popped up at the side of the screen.

1215thexiahtic: Yoochunnieeeeeeeee!!! Me is really sorry!!!

1215thexiahtic : I promise, I'll make it up to you!!!

He scoffed and ignored Junsu's attempt to get on his good side again. Maybe he should keep the silent treatment for a while, it will drive Junsu insane for there is not a day they aren't talking to each other. Or maybe until Junsu... And then his phone rang. Hearing the tone customized just for Junsu, put a smile on his face.

But even before he could answer properly, Junsu’s already babbling nonsensical things.

***

“This is ridiculous,” Yoochun sighed to Kim Hyunjoong the guitarist’s face. He then turned to Shim Changmin, the bassist. “Isn’t this ridiculous? Yeah it is ridiculous,” he caressed down Choi Seunhyun’s body in despair.

Junsu stared at his insane best friend, unsure of what to do.

“Jaejoong-ah, what to do…” he sobbed, leaning on the picture of Jaejoong on his bedroom wall. “Jaejoong-ah forgive me, I will not attend this concert. It’s all...because of someone…” he spared a glare at Junsu, who returned the look with a sheepish smile, and sighed. “I promise I will see you next year, okay? Jaejoong-ah, wait for me~~~”

“Chunnie, stop torturing yourself!”

Yoochun, still glued to Mayhem’s concert poster that he stole from public announcement board, glared bloody murder to Junsu. “If I die before Christmas…”

“YOU WONT!”

“...I am going to haunt you for the rest of your life!”

Junsu shrugged, burrowing deeper to Yoochun’s cover, “You’d rather follow Jaejoong into the bathroom, watch him shower or something.”

Yoochun pouted, but he knew it was true. He wanted to kick Junsu off his bed and tell the idiot to go back to his king-sized one back at the freaking palace Junsu lives at. He never knew why Junsu would rather crash at his tiny shithole of an apartment, with a single bed barely big enough for the two of them. Maybe Junsu’s just lonely, Yoochun knew almost no one is ever home at that humongous house other than the maids, and Junsu is the only child.

Right now, though, he cannot sympathize with the boy who cost him his Mayhem ticket.

“Jaejoongieee…” Yoochun continued to whine.

“Dammit Yoochun, I already asked Daesung to find you a ticket, okay?!” Junsu pulled Yoochun off the wall and into the bed. “I told you I will make it up to you, stop that pathetic whining, it gives me headache.”

Yoochun stared at Junsu as he pulled the cover over both of them. Daesung is Junsu’s butler, and damn Yoochun had no idea how he put up with Junsu’s weirdest request from time to time, but so far he had been doing well. A spark of hope lit up within him; if it was Daesung then maybe he will get the ticket after all.

“Really?” Yoochun beamed.

Junsu grunted and elbowed him on the ribs.

***

Nope, he could never trust Junsu.

Earlier that day Junsu had stopped by and when Yoochun asked if he got the ticket yet, Junsu turned around and complimented the painting on the wall behind him, asking if it’s new. The damn painting had been there three years ago when Yoochun first started working there.

He freaking hates Junsu to Pluto and back.

Having finished his homework for the week, noting there were no more lectures he needed to review, he glanced at the clock. Still three hours left on his shift, might as well make use of it properly. Glancing at the manager’s room, he could see Jiyong dozing off on his own seat, feet on the table like he owned the goddamn place. Yoochun grinned to himself and put his headphones on. He loads into his Vindictus account, set up his Kai, checked for inventory, stocked up healing potion to restore his health later on, then launched for the field.

The first thing he headed to, though, is his Mayhem fanclub. He particularly joined this group of players due to their common interest on Mayhem as him. They actually had promised to meet up during Mayhem Christmas Concert, if someone hadn’t ruined it for him….(he’s seriously going to kill Junsu for this). Unfortunately, the only online player at the time was Evie, so he simply left another message on the group chat inquiring them if they have found extra ticket for him, and dialed Evie.

“Heya!” Yoochun greeted cheerfully into his mic.

“Kaaaiii~” the cute, girly voice greeted back. “Annyeong!”

Yoochun grinned to himself. Evie is one of the best players in their group, but she’s rarely online. She said it’s because of her job, she mentioned it requires her to move around a lot? Yoochun never really asked, he figured it is rude to ask about her personal life, so he only asked when Evie told him something. Even though they are close to each other, and she’s probably the closest player in the group to Yoochun, they only call each other by their character name. Yoochun never told her his real name, nor had he asked what her real name is.

But yeah, he maybe, kinda, sorta...crush on her. Sort of.

“I haven’t got my ticket,” Yoochun sulked to the other, half whining.

Yoochun could almost hear the pout in Evie’s voice as she sighed, “But we were going to meet up…”

“I know, I’m sorry,” Yoochun instantly felt bad. He knew everyone had been dreading to meet each other, they had been playing together for almost a year now.

“Up for a mission?” Evie changed the topic, then a pair mission request popped up on Yoochun’s screen.

“Aye Aye!” Yoochun accepted the request and launched to face the enemy with Evie by his side.

***

Yoochun dragged his feet into the horribly early in the morning class. What kind of class starts at 8 anyway?! He cursed the lecturer, but cursed himself more. After Evie went offline, he had gone browsing and checking everywhere for tickets. He even made accounts for some forums in order to search for the tickets. He still couldn’t find one, it’s ridiculous. He had only a week left, before his hope turns into ashes. Before he realized it, the clock had shown 3 am in the morning, hence the only 3 hours sleep.

He should really watch his grades, though, he might lose his scholarship. Working at the internet cafe had been taking a lot of his time. Even though he studied during the shift, it is quite dangerous for him, he realized he had been playing around too much. Could this be a sign that maybe he should lessen his fanboying over Mayhem? His obsession with Vindictus? His infatuation with a faceless, nameless girl he only knows by Evie?

Urgh, how ridiculous, Yoochun thought as he slumped into the back seat of the class. He hates how his life only revolves around studying and working at the internet cafe. The only love life he has is crushing over the main vocalist of Mayhem and his RPG-mate he doesn’t even know the real name of. The lecturer walked into the room, but Yoochun was too exhausted, so he laid his head on the table.

He pulled out his phone to once again check on the tickets. No such luck.

Should he maybe email Evie? Nah, that would be too desperate.

He sighed and closed his eyes instead. Maybe in his dream, he’ll get to meet Mayhem in person.

So, the calendar marked the day as the 25th day of December.

Yoochun took the calendar off his wall and flung it out of the window.

It’s over. His life is over. The concert has started, he glanced at the clock. The concert started two minutes ago, and there he is, at home. Why…why does this happen to him?!

Yoochun threw himself to his bed, lying eagle-spread. His tears probably ran out the previous nights, he couldn’t even cry over this misery anymore. He stared at his ceiling with his phone on his stomach, buzzing. He ignored it, even though it tickles, because it is most likely just Junsu, begging for forgiveness, since he doesn’t know anyone else not busy enough on Christmas day as to not bother him. What more could he do? If he was to be positive, though, the money he had saved up from his part time job can be used to buy books for the next semester, he might be able to buy new instead of secondhand ones.

He sighed and closed his eyes.

After all, being obsessed over a guy he only met once years ago was never a good idea. He wondered why he is always attracted to the unreachable. Kim Jaejoong, who is Yoochun to be in love with that man? He was a music genius with the voice of an angel, and Yoochun is just Yoochun. There is no way Jaejoong would remember him anyway. And then Evie...even if Yoochun hadn’t liked her as much as he liked Jaejoong, he is incredibly drawn to her. They had only been online friends on Vindictus, member of the same group that shares the same interest over Mayhem. He hadn’t even known her real name!

He was so used to spending Christmas alone, with his parents always busy trying to find money for him...why does this particular night feel so lonely?

His phone buzzed one more time before Yoochun finally gave up and decided to check it. Unexpectedly, there was an email that was not from Junsu.

from: Evie
to: Kai

Merry Christmas :)

And as simple as that, Yoochun’s lip stretched into a smile.

Not so lonely after all.

***

Yoochun stared at his phone.

After that one email, Evie hadn’t replied more of his emails. He spent so much effort on writing the long heartfelt reply, too. He lied his head on the desk, ignoring Jiyong who is probably glaring at him from his office. He would probably lecture him regarding his work ethic later on, but he couldn’t care less right now.

The clocked showed just 5 minutes past midnight, and why the hell does he have to work two days before new year anyway? Can Jiyong and Junsu be sued on the basis or labor right? Isn’t this slavery? Doesn’t he have the right to end of year holiday with bonus payment as presents too?

He decided maybe he should nap.

Or more like, get a proper sleep once in a while.

Maybe quit this job too, get a proper and better paid one.

As Yoochun kept contradicting himself as he slowly drifted to sleep, however, his phone buzzed. Annoyed, Yoochun forced himself to sit up and opened the email he just received, rubbing the sleep off his eyes. When he read the content of the email, though, he blinked several times before putting his phone down and rubbing his eyes again. He must have misread the content of the email. How could he have received an email from Dream Motion Entertainment.

Wait, what?

Yoochun reread the content of the email one more time.

from: Dream Motion Entertainment

to: Kai

Yoochun frowned. What the hell is this, some kind of a prank? He did not own a ticket, how could he have won a fanparty pass? He immediately contacted customer information number as attached on the email.

“Email address kai@vindictus.kr, right?” the operator answered, “There was no mistake. It is the right email address. Congratulations, Sir, you have won the fanparty pass.”

Holy...SHIT! Is this for real?!

Yoochun stared at the email some more, not believing his eyes. How did this happen? He didn’t get the ticket, but the email stated a ticket number. Someone who owned a ticket registered his email under his number? What are the odds of that?! Who could possibly do this? Who could have known his email and owned a ticket?

Suddenly, Junsu barged into the cafe noisily. “I GOT YOUR PASS!!!” Junsu cheered and pulled Yoochun into a hug. “Am I the best friend in the whole world or what?!”

“So this is your doing?” Yoochun lit up, “I’m really going to the fanparty?!”

“Of course you are,” Junsu said, smug smile on display. He pulled out a confirmation ticket out from his pocket, “I had to pay the winner of this pass three times the price of the concert ticket, but whatever makes my Yoochunnie happy~~~”

“Uh?” Yoochun looked confused, “But I got my own confirmation ticket,” he showed Junsu the email on his phone.

“WHAT? HOW?!” Junsu screamed, devastated, “MY HARD WORK IS WASTED?! But...” he pulled out the kicked puppy face again, “...but I tried so hard to find ticket for Yoochunnieee….”

“So we have two passes?” Yoochun smiled.

“A very expensive pass on my side,” Junsu scoffed.

“Awesome!!!” Yoochun’s smile stretched into a grin as he pulled Junsu into his arms again, giddily jumping. “Thank you, Suie! You are going with me to the party!"
