“Okay, here it is.” Eric walked into the bedroom. He sat down on the edge of the bed and handed the warm mug over to Ryan. “Did I get it right?”

“Looks right.” Ryan looked at the liquid. “No milk, no sugar-”
“And no tea. What’s the point?”
“Warm water is better for calming down the stomach than tea. Real tea might actually make it worse.”
“But it’s not really tea at all.”
“So?” Ryan took a sip and leaned back against the pillows. “It stopped rumbling again.”
“You think you got anything left inside to throw up?”
“No. This is not right… if anyone deserves to be throwing up, it’s you.”
“Why me?”
“For two reasons: First of all, you wanted to go to that place.”
“Yeah… Sorry about that.”
“And second: You look disgustingly healthy.”
“Maybe I just got a strong stomach.”
“Sheldon looked okay too.” Ryan pressed his fingers against the warm mug. “That’s so unfair…”
“What?”
“Don’s got a real doctor looking after him, I just got you.”
“I think I should be insulted right about now.”

“Just kidding.” Ryan grinned over the rim of the mug. “But it’s kinda cute.”
“That my boyfriend makes jokes about wanting to date a doctor? Nope, it’s not cute.”
“I meant Don and Sheldon. That whole "just getting together" phase.”
“Yeah…” Eric sighed with a lopsided grin on his face. “I remember when we hit the five hour mark… the romance, the sweet whispers…”

“Is that how you remember it?”
“Not really.”
“Me neither. We were stuck in that cabin  for sixteen hours and working through your condom stash was the only thing we could do to pass the time.”
“You were the one who kept insisting the phone lines were down.”
“The phone lines were down.”
“I thought you made that up.”
“Why would I make up something like that?”
“So they wouldn’t come and get us too soon.” Eric put his best puppy eyes to good use. “It could have been a lot worse. Now we got a good tale to tell about how we got together.”

“You’re not planning a six-month anniversary in that hellhole, are you?” Ryan tried to keep a straight face. “Because if you are, I’ll have to dump you.”
“That place gotta be so cheap that even we could afford it-”
“I’m warning you, Delko.”
“Don’t worry, I already got plans for our anniversary.”
“I thought I was the only one.” Ryan chuckled. “I thought you were exactly the type to leave everything to the last minute, if you remember it at all.”
“I am that type. And it wasn’t that I really planned it, it was more like an ultimatum.”
“How can that be an ultimatum?" Ryan frowned sceptically. "And where exactly did that "ultimatum" come from?”

“My mom." Eric looked more than a bit awkward. "I was gonna tell you about that."

“I have to admit, Stella really knows how to think forward.” Hawkes stated. “The flight and everything, and she even called the hotel.”

“Whhaatt?” Don lifted his head and rested it against the water tank. “Don’t talk when I got my head halfway down the toiled, the acoustics are crap.”
“Sorry. I just said that Stella had called the hotel to make sure we can stay in the same room. She informed them that you’re here to keep me safe while I testify so we have to share a room.”
“The correct term would be: Official escort provided by the law enforcement officials for security purposes.”
“Are you sure?”
“No, but it sounds more official. And you’re always correcting everyone else.”

“So I’ve been told… How are you feeling?”
“I’m well enough to keep vomiting, so I guess I’m pretty good.” Don pressed his head against the cool surface. “I got this weird feeling I forgot something.”
“Stella?” Hawkes handed Don his phone. “You got quite a few unanswered calls and one new message. It was on the nightstand.

“Yeah, I put it on mute and then I forgot it… She’s probably really mad at me right now.”
“Better get it done quickly so it’s done.”

Don dialled a number. Stella answered quickly and Don shot Hawkes a suffering look.
“Sorry, I got my phone on mute, I forgot it. Stell… No, Stella… Can I say few words too? I’m here hugging the toilet bowl and puking my guts out, I got a right to speak when I’m not vomiting. Thanks, it was something I ate. No, I don’t need help, I’ll just ride it out.” A small smile creeped up to his lips. “I already got a doctor here, and I’m getting some personal care. Yeah, we’re good and that’s all you’re gonna get now. Can we talk more when we get back? No more calls, and I’ll give you a summery when we come home. Thanks. Bye.”

“You’re not really going to give her any details?” Hawke asked. “I mean i don`t want to keep this a secret, but keep something private. You can tell her the some of it, but nothing too raunchy or-”

“I’ll keep the raunchy ones to myself.” Don assured and tapped the keys of his phone. “I don’t share, not even memories. Not that kinda memories.” He selected the message and pressed the phone against his ear again. Thirty seconds later the message ended and he stared at the phone with an odd look on his face. “That was Danny.”

“What did he want?
“I don’t know. As soon as the message started there was this horrible screaming in the background and I could only hear few words here and there.”
“You mean the baby was screaming?”
“No, Lindsay.”

-----------------------------------------

Ryan almost dropped his mug. He placed it carefully on the nightstand and shot Eric a strict look.
“Whole story, from the beginning. Right now.”

“She said six months is long enough and they wanna meet you. I think I should have at least three more months, I didn’t tell them about you until we had been together for three months, so-”
“What did you tell her?”
“Just the normal stuff. You work at the lab, how long we’ve been together-”
“And she knows about…?” Ryan made a vague gesture pointing down at his crotch.

“Ryan’s not exactly a gender neutral name.” Eric groaned. “Once I got that out they kinda put the pieces together.”
“How did they take it?”
“They were pretty shocked, but they got over it. Mom’s looking forward to meeting you, my sisters had a little girl-talk with her.”
“What did they say to her?”
“Promised to make sure she would have grandkids anyway.”
“And your dad?”
“He’s… getting there.”
“Getting there?”
“Keep a smile on your face, your voice low and don’t make any sudden movements-”
“You make him sound like a cobra.”
“No, he’s not that bad. He’ll act like you’re not there and when he gets used to you he’ll just act like everything was fine from the start.”
“And we’ll act like that’s normal?”

“Yep. In case you were thinking, he doesn’t have any shotguns at home or anything.”
“Good to know.”
“And it can’t be any worse than the first girl I took home.”
“Did they hate her?”
“No, my sisters did. It’s along story, but it included a dinner, teenage girls and a prank gone wrong. She had just had her hair dyed and when my sisters tried to do this prank on her and … her hair caught fire.”
“What kind of a prank was it?”

“You don’t wanna know. Mom was furious, dad had to explain it to the girls parents… all my sisters were grounded for a month.”
“Are your sisters planning any initiation pranks for me?”
“Nah, you’re already on their good side, because I managed to keep our thing going this long. They thought it must be good if it lasts longer than a month.”
“Sounds like they know you well.”
“They do… and they thought you were cute.”
“How would they know that?”
“I showed them a picture.” Eric pulled his wallet from his pants pocket and flipped open. “The headless woman in the mud bath.”

Ryan knew what he was talking about before he even saw the picture. The investigation at the spa had gone well, but on their way out the killer decided to leave his hideout and make a run for it. The quick dash ended in one of the mud pools and he had taken two others with him, Ryan and one of the uniformed cops. In the picture, the suspect was being lead out of the spa in cuffs and Ryan was walking after them, manically scrubbing off the mud from his face and his hands and glaring at the man’s back with a murderous expression.

“I hate cellphone cameras…”
“Come on, that’s a cute picture. And I did show them some pics where they could actually see your face without the mud.”

“I hate being photographed, I always end up looking like that guy from Brokeback Mountain.” Ryan complained and continued sipping his warm water. “And meeting the parents... I’m gonna say something stupid and then-” Ryan pressed his palm against his stomach and took few deep breaths. “I shouldn`t think about that, even the water`s starting to come back up.”

“Stop stressing, you’ll be a hit.”
“Or get hit.”
“My dad is a big macho everywhere except at home. Mom and the girls are guarding you, so you have nothing to worry about.”
