This afternoon we moved Mom and Harry in with us until power is restored. I figure if I survive having my mom live here for as many as 4 or even more days, I deserve to be canonized

Me too. Our neighborhood was mostly spared except for a few downed trees. We are very lucky to have power and helping is the right thing to do. Howard asked AT&T to waive the overage fees for his hot spot and they agreed so our neighbors could get online and send out e-mails. Everyone is pitching in where they can.
She was very old and survived the fire with dignity but earlier this year she developed an infestation of carpenter bees. And if she had to go I suppose being cut down is better than being toppled in a storm and taking neighboring trees with her.
But telling us your Mom is with you now was a dumb move. When the strain of having her there got too much she could have just, y'know, disappeared... "No, haven't seen her since the storm, officer..." =>:o}
Or was the public declaration a way of reducing the temptation? =:o}
