Well, we are all safe but Queens looks like a bomb hit it. It seems quite likely that a tornado made it's way through the area, ripping off roofs and knocking down, trees, phone and light poles and power lines plus one electrical transformer we saw. Streets were blocked, bus lines, trains and subways were shut down and we were without power for ( Read more... )

Wow. Freaky. Glad to hear you're okay, and yes...it's wrenching when big beautiful trees are damaged like that.

apparently, by the time the tornado (confirmed by the weather dudes as such) touched down in Queens, there were top wind speeds of 110 mph. The last time there was a tornado in NYC was 1895

Last night, Howard's news feed on his Iphone confirmed two tornados in New York. I think someone was watching after my ass the other night because I usually go outside in thunderstorms and this was the mother of them all. However, I had the screen down in the door to the balcony upstairs and was trying to get the glass up because water was pouring in and flooding my bedroom. I never even got to see the green sky. But you know what, I may have been blown off the damn balcony if I had stepped outside like I had planned. That was one scary, scary storm, even for me, the storm lover. I'm glad I stayed inside.

If you *had* seen the sky, there might have been skywriting that said "Surrender Dorothy!"

EEP! =8oO

Glad to read you're all safe. *TWO* tornados? Both at once?

Remember kids: Tornados are not for hugging! They tend to return the hug far too enthusiastically. A respectful salute from a safe distance is considered quite acceptable.
