"Virgil Brigman back on the air"

Well, we are all safe but Queens looks like a bomb hit it. It seems quite likely that a tornado made it's way through the area, ripping off roofs and knocking down, trees, phone and light poles and power lines plus one electrical transformer we saw. Streets were blocked, bus lines, trains and subways were shut down and we were without power for ( Read more... )

geez, that does sound scary!
I always feel badly for the trees, too.
Here in my (FL) neighborhood, when Tropical Storm Faye came through, it took ages to clean up afterward.
Glad you and yours are safe 'n sound.

It's scary to see how many came down and how violently too.

Thanks!

Oh, I know but it will take years for them to grow to the size their predecessors were. And there were so many. One mini park near work had about 4 dozen trees in it and about 5 were still intact. One near our house uprooted completely, fell across the entire street and took several squares of sidewalk with it. So much carnage. Mother Nature does not play.

Thanks. Me too. I figure even this family deserves a break once in a while.

I've never seen damage like this from any kind of thunderstorm. At the moment it seems quite likely that at least Park Slope was hit by a tornado, there is footage apparently. And I know meteorologists are being sent out to the three neighborhoods to investigate.

I am safe, we all are. I understand about the trees but it will definitely change the ecology of my neighborhood. Sad, no matter what.

yeah, my neighborhood was utterly trashed also-- downed power lines and huge trees completely uprooted just around the block from me, a couple of hundred yards away (my house was untouched). But then I walked the doglet today in Alley Pond park across the street from us and it was barely touched. In some areas, the path was completely *dry*. Today I heard that the tornado touched down in Bayside and then took itself over the bay, bypassing the 600 acres of forested park. I'm grateful at least for that!
