Contemplating craziness

We already have a zoo. Currently there are 8 cats, 7 parrots, 2 dogs and a rabbit. A friend of mine is trying to rehome birds belonging to a cancer patient who is terminal. One is a cockatiel. The second is a very well behaved African Grey. The last bird is a bitey foul-mouthed Amazon. Guess which one we are contemplating? In addition, we stopped ( Read more... )

I thought of you. I had a Red lored Amazon that lived to be 13. he was psycho but I loved him. I know you've picked up some difficult birds and helped them. Any advice about the 25 year old Grey? I feel so bad for him. There are so many things he needs, I'm not sure where to start, if we take him, though I'd start with modifying his diet most likely.

We already KNOW you are the crazy bird/cat/animal lady. (meant that in the nicest way - not as snark)

Problems aside, I think you've already decided. :D

Aw, you didn't have to edit, I knew it wasn't a snark. ;)

Defnitely decided about the Grey but not sure about the Amazon.

Oh boy did I think of you last night. In addition to selling animals they kept a few exotics as pets. Two of the exotics? A pair of white necked ravens. I love those guys, even got to feed them once and I was trying to find a way to get them a good home. Unfortunately, the worker at the pet store thinks I would need a raptor license, so that was the end of that.

They don't even have a flight cage now. Poor things have been in a plexiglass enclosure with no place to fly. And eating dog food.

I did some research on getting a raptor license but you went the smarter route. I know he wants to sell them, not sure if I can afford them. If I an afford them, I'd like them to live with you. They are not pets and are bitey. You would all get along fine.;P

Would you take them both?

I wish you had the space. I know a 12 year old one named Joey who is sweet and affectionate and looking for a home because his owner is dying of cancer.
