Several years back, when doing some spring-cleaning, I discovered that I own a Peruvian coin. I have no idea where it came from. At that point I didn't even know anyone who had ever been to Peru.

It remains a mystery.

I've had US coins given to me in my change here in Scotland.

Presumably someone was given that as change and dumped it when they realised. I can't remember the sze of a dime - is it the old 5p coin (which may be worth a little more than its face value to collectors) or the current smaller one?

If it looks like a dime then it's the current small 5p coin. The old one was more the size of a quarter (but thicker, I think, and heavier). The current 5p and dime are almost equal in value as well as size.

Once when I was vacationing in London I found a US penny on the sidewalk.

According to a story I heard on NPR, it's now fairly common for the Irish and Brits to come over to NYC to shop. The dollar is....somewhat weak, at the moment....

Oh, definitely it is. And there have ALWAYS been many foreign tourists in NYC. It is, after all, the Center of the Universe.

It's just not common to spot foreign coins out here in the 'burbs :)
