While I was out doing laundry, I spotted a dime the parking lot while I walked over to Starbuck's for caffeine (yes, I was THAT desperate for caffeine). I picked it up and shoved it in my pocket.

I just took a look at it. It's not a dime at all, or indeed any North American coin. It's 5pWhat a strange thing to find in the parking lot of a Long ( Read more... )

I was sorting the change that I found in the dankest corners of my jeans pocket and saw one 5p that looked odd. On closer examination, it turned out to be a 5p from St Helena & Ascension Island. That's a fairly low probability to find :)

I was just sorting out, this afternoon, a bag full of sewing stuff that came from a friend of Zander & Janet's. And in among all the fabric and magazines and thread and stuff was a plastic bag, knotted round something heavy. Said something turned out, when unwrapped to be mostly old Spanish pesetas, a few old French francs ... and an American cent.

I was in an arcade some years back, checked the coin return on one of the video games, and found a Urugwayan coin. Never seen one before or since, and I have no idea how it made it all the way to a Jersey arcade, but it was thrilling to find.

I have several coins that LOOK like 5p pieces but are not. One is a US coin (?5 cents) so maybe all the similar looking coins in the wrong country balance each other out. If you bring that one over here, for instance, someone here in the UK has to take an US coin back over to the states BUT they must look like a coin of the country they are in.

Have I lost you yet???? :-)
