I'm curious as to who he reserved the punishment of gang rape for? I've heard a case where a group of boys gangraped one of the boys' girlfriends, as punishment to their friend, her boyfriend, because he wasn't able to kill a member of a rival gang. Not conding ANY gang rapes here, just providing a slant to that boy's "joke".
I completely agree, that making jokes about women or women's rights demeans the women and their plights.
I don't mean to laugh at a very serious topic, but your last line cracked me up. It sounded so... final.
I hate jokes.
In all seriousness though, careless "joking" attitudes about things like this among teenage boys is scary. I know, if it came down to it and he was called out on it, he likely wouldn't seriously stand behind what he said, but the fact that it was said in jest is still just... gross.
yeah, I was just mad. Jokes are so tricky to deal with because people make so many stupid, offensive jokes and I guess you just have to pick your battles.
I'm glad you said something. I'm pissed that he said it because you're right. As Katie Koestner, one of the first date rape victims to come forward publicly, said at my college last Thursday night, "If rape is just a joke, who will say it’s serious enough to stop?"
