In the U.S. October was Domestic Violence Awareness Month. There was a minor, very minor, media campaign, and to be honest I didn't hear anything about it outside of my day job. I saw this on feministing.com this morning and I really like these. The flower imagery is especially powerful, I think. Possibly bordering on stereotypical (isn't the vulva as flower a classic literary trope?), but in this case, I believe it's more than appropriate.

The Australian federal government launched an ad campaign today against domestic violence that will run until November 25th (International Violence Against Women Day). This campaign's aimed at bystanders (particularly men), encouraging them not to ignore DV they see around them. The Gender Project is well underway at Indiana University of South Bend. We are a new, student organized, gender advocacy group on campus.

Just a brief post to tell you how the women's day off rally went.

Somewhere between 40 and 50 thousand women showed up and the downtown area was bursting at the seams. Spirits were high - I marched along with my mother and my friend fangor - although we gave up halfway through the march and took a shortcut down to the square were the stage was set up.
