Work Woes

Sep 19, 2008 09:17

My boss is trying to screw me out of money. Friday I was given my welcome pack with all my paper work. Mary-Jane-Boy (my office mate) and I work pretty closely and we talk about this and that and we’ve shared our salary rates to ensure both of us get a fair shake. Well, last Friday when I was given my paper work I asked CHOMPS what he submitted me ( Read more... )

In my rodeo... unsupportedgeek September 19 2008, 13:49:37 UTC
I've learned never discuss how many baked beans I get with the other clowns. Additionally, I make sure to get how many beans I get in writting before I start riding. At the end of the day I only need to be concerned with my beans.

Sometimes the other rodeo clowns have more experience doging bulls, have gone to clown college, or negotiated more beans at the start, so I stop any conversation about it and walk away when it comes up. I do not know the reason. It comes down to the fact that the work I do has nothing to do with how much other people make.

Also, it seems like your head clown is in an uncomfortable position when being confronted with your knowledge of how much the other clowns make.

Lastly, since you saw Mary-Jane-Boy's paystub, does this mean he was not lying about making more than you?

The only problem with this is that if no clowns discuss what they are making, female clowns consistently get paid less than male clowns, and this particular female clown knows that female clowns with the same education and skills are not respected the same at the rodeo as the male clowns.

So if she doesn't fight, she won't get the money, and it does have something to do with what the other clowns make.

Yes! And if you don't find out RIGHT AWAY, the statute of limitations will run and you will have no recourse. Good on Femcure for being all over the situation from the start.

If Mary-Jane-Boy had more of an education, more experience, some certification under his belt accompanied by actual experience and received more money. Then of course I wouldn’t be complaining ( ... )

Don't give up!

Oh, and also thank you for spelling "supersede" right. I see it wrong so often that when I see it correct, it makes me want to throw a rose parade.

Sue. And do it now because the statute of limitations for equal pay is like a week. (Actually, I think it's 180 days, but I'm not sure. But I know it's really ridiculously short.)
