Pants and the weird-waisted

Sep 10, 2013 16:53

I am having a pants problem, fellow fats. None of the pants I try on want to fit me. They're either too tight/loose on the waist/hips while fitting the other just fine, and they also all seem to have a ridiculous rise on me. See, my pants-wearing waist is actually around my bellybutton, and any pants made by Lane Bryant rise at least 2-3 inches ( Read more... )

disgust, help!, pants

I can't recommend a brand as such, but removing fabric (in this case lowering the waistband) is pretty much always doable. Prices vary hugely depending on your location, but if it's not a rush job it should be fairly cheap, $10-12 or so.

Thank you! I already have a couple pair of new (washed and worn, so no returns) jeans that I don't want to give up on quite yet.

Old Navy actually has some decent lower-rise pants - at least in their straight sizes; I can't comment on their plus sizes, but a quick peek shows at least a few styles that "fit lower on the waist". Shipping is free on orders over $50, and their return policy is very nice - free shipping on returns AND exchanges.

For websites that list the actual rise measurements, I'd take a pair of pants that fit you otherwise, measure their rise, measure how far above your belly-button the waist hits, and subtract the latter from the former - that'll give you the rise you want.

My pants always get worn at my bellybutton too. I buy Old Navy pants. Exclusively. Nothing else fits me right, or is way too expensive. Old Navy has a lot of different options for fit and style.
Unfortunately the Plus Size is only online. But it's free shipping and free returns for over $50. So just order over $50 of stuff to try, then return whatever you don't want. That's how I do it. Works out great. Depending on the style, the sizes run bigger or smaller. So order a variety of styles and sizes. But I swearrrrrr by Old Navy. Back from when I was a size 12 through now as a size 20. Love them. I'm waiting for a shipment right now actually. They have a 15% off sale going on currently.

I'd order a size smaller in Old Navy pants than you wear at Lane Bryant. I don't care what the reviews say.

Also, try on the Petites at LB...the rise IS better, and they're not that short. I am 5'9". The petite jeans were long enough for me to wear with flats. I refused to buy them on principle, because 5'9" IS NOT PETITE and they need to un-fuck their pants. Also, try Catherines. I know, they're grandma pants, but if you're not tucking your shirt in no one will notice.

Finally, if there are old pants you like, ebay the shit out of them. I found a pair of LB's older-style, perfect jeans, WITH THE TAGS, for $14.99 a month ago.

Old Navy also has better prices than Lane Bryant. Guess I'll be making an order! How do you find the length to be?

Old Navy has way better prices. You can usually wait for some sort of 15%+ sale to come around.
I'm about 5'4"-5'5"ish, I wear the regular length ones and that's usually fine, especially on skinny jeans. With bootcut, they tend to be slightly long on me, but the short ones are way too short.
It just takes a lot of trying stuff.
For my body type (my weight is in my tummy and I have wide hips, but a flat butt), I find that for bootcut, the Sweetheart line works best, and for skinny jeans the Diva cut works.
But online they may not be labeled like that anymore, so just read up on each different fit and if you can afford to front the money, order a ton of different sizes and styles to see which works best for you.
Good luck!

one word to look for is "contoured waistband"- this is a shaped instead of straight waistband that dips down in front. Once you get closer, you need to have the pants tailored.

I just wanted to chime in that Old Navy pants would probably be a good buy! I've gotten some regular pants on there that are kind of low rise. Plus, you can obviously return them if they don't work out.
