Pants Help?

Nov 25, 2011 02:13

I have a problem purchasing jeans and pants that I was hoping I could get some advice/direction on. I'm short (5'1") and pants always either fit through the hips and won't zip/button, or they button fine but I have yards of fabric around my stomach and thighs. My measurements are 48/49 in hips and 44/45 in waist. I usually buy "low-ride" pants in ( Read more... )

Have you tried teh Lane Bryant Right fit? I have a 44 waist and 56 hips and have found their curvy to be good on me. they also have straight and "regular" which is just a little pull in at the waist, but not as much as I need. The straight jeans sound like they're just what you need. They also sell them in Petite and regular, though it's hard to find the petite in store.

They have dress pants and jeans. I haven't had ANY luck with pencil skirts, but they're hard with measurements like mine, as they are cut straight and I am not built straight (as you can tell by my measurements).

Also, LB has some ponte-knit pencil skirts. I love mine. They have sort of a high waistband and not a lot of curve otherwise. You might have to have yours hemmed, although I did see a shorter version online, I think?

I have the same problem you do, and need dress pants for work. I've had good luck at Lane Bryant and Fashion Bug, I believe the actual brand is called 1940 (some year). I can't help you on jeans, though, I gave up trying to find.

Sounds like you could be either apple shaped or strawberry/heart shaped. I usually hate that whole "I'm shaped like this abstract item" thing, but it sometimes helps when you're trying to find clothes that fit your body, because people shaped like you might have suggestions for brands/styles to try ( ... )

I have wide hips but zero ass, so I'm always hesitant to use those terms even though they reflect my measurements, but not my actual shape. I suppose I'll use strawberry-shaped from now on.

The problem with their high-rise is that because I'm so short, they wind up somewhere on my ribcage, which is super uncomfortable for me. I'm going to track down a Lane Bryant, though, and try their yellow line on.

Thanks for your help! Everything at Avenue seems to be for people who are six feet tall, so even stuff that is technically too small for me hangs terribly.

I hate the whole idea that there is some abstract THING that is supposed to define people's bodies, because none are exactly alike. It's taken me a long time to realize that. Like, when I was younger and exclusively shopping at LB, I couldn't understand why the clothes never fit me the way they seemed to fit everyone else; it wasn't until I was much older that I finally understood that the clothes weren't fitting because the designers didn't make them to fit MY body shape, and that there were lots of women out there shaped like me and it was okay to stop hating my body, even though LB and Ave and everyone else told me there was something wrong with me ( ... )

Stay away from anything that's labeled "trouser" cut - they go straight down from hip to ankle.

I had really good luck at The Avenue this weekend. Their Broadway cut straight leg fit great and everything was 40% off (I think thru today), so I got 4 pairs of jeans for $60. I can finally throw away my two old, ill-fitting jeans that have patches in the thighs!! :D

A friend of mine is shaped similarily, she has had a lot of luck shopping at Dorothy Perkins. Unfortunately I haven't got a freaking clue what size you would need with them.
