I can't wear cacique anymore (realized my proper size was a 42L) but when I did - I always removed the plastic inserts. They didn't seem to do much for support and my body would end up warping and bending them anyway. Once they were removed, the bra became infinitely more comfortable.
measure around your ribcage right below your bra (it's easier if you have someone help you because really you need to lift your arms up) if you measure 38 inches then that is your band size. then, measure around the fullest part of you bust, don't pull tight, just where the bra would sit. so, let's say you measure 44", you subtract 38 from 44 and get 6" difference. you would be a 38DDD. each cup size is one inch difference, 1"= A cup, 2"=B cup, 3"=C, 4=D, 5=DD, 6=DDD, 7=F, 8=G, 9=H. that's as high as LB bras go.
this is just the sizing process for cacique bras, it varies slightly from brand to brand. some places (cough victorias's seccret cough) will just straight up lie to you about your size so you'll fit into their products, so if the size you measure yourself at seems far from what they've told you, i wouldn't be surprised.
IDK about this though, because when I do this it says I should be a 44G (44 rib cafe, 52 around my boobs), and I normally wear a 44 DDD from Cacique, which is almost too big for my boobies. I've tried on a 44G and I had distinct gaps in my cups. I say always buy in store with bras.
yeah, this is really just the starting point for fitting a bra, to be honest. like, in the store we would have someone try the size they measure at and then check the fit on that bra and go from there. it's really a process. it would be pretty hard to order a perfectly fitting bra online without ever having shopped with the brand before. most people don't know what a perfect fitting bra even looks or feels like, though

I love Cacique brand for comfort (even though I am PISSED about them discontinuing my favorite, no-underwire soft-shaped-cup style), but bras really need to be tried on before bought. Every single brand is sized differently, and with Cacique, even material makes a difference in how something will fit.
Now, once you've found which specific type, size, and material . . then order online. But you really should try them on first at Lane Bryant.
If you possibly can, go to a LB and try tons of Cacique bras on in-person. I did this - I spent almost an hour just trying on different sizes and styles, finding out what worked and what didn't. Then I noted everything down and went to eBay.
Now that I need a strapless bra, I plan on going back to the local LB in the next week or so and trying on their strapless bras to see what size/style I need.
Maybe this is common and every body else knew this except me.
If you wear over a C cup, do not buy cotton bras.
They stretch out after a little while and don't fit you properly anymore.
I only wore cotton because I live in Death Vegas and it's ungodly hot. But they would seriously crap out on me after 3 weeks. I wear a DD and it was one of the best things I've ever done switching to non-cotton.

Just because you measure a 38D doesn't mean all 38D bras will fit you. Think of your measured size as a starting point, and go try on.
