it's not so much green fingers, it's more about being ruthless enough to throw out whatever doesn't flourish. FanSee

What I particularly miss is trying to find anything that will grow, let alone thrive, in a 9'x9' patch surrounded on all sides by three story houses. You'd be amazed at the number of plants that won't even consider growing in dense shade. Grasses. Ornamental grasses and a stubborn maple, that's what. FanSee

Actually it wouldn't surprise me as I used to have to deal with heavy shade out front. I struggled for years to grow stuff, then management started pruning trees and I got tons more sun. Another learning curve!
