FANDOM EXPOSITION, The Park, All Day Saturday (8:00 - 23:00)

Aug 06, 2016 11:04

Where had the staff come from? Nobody knew. But sometime at six in the morning, a group of people arrived in the park and immediately spread out over the premises, constructing a bunch of nondescript stands at a rapid pace. They set out cheap soft drinks on the picnic tables, put up some large banners, cleaned the place up and scared off a few ( Read more... )

... Well, this was unexpected, if not surprising. One minute, Karolina had been flying high above Los Angeles, the next minute she was here.

She found she really didn't mind, though. She'd been gone for way too long. And, ooh, there was a market! So, she went to get herself a soda. Time to see if she'd find anything interesting.

Jim was only making a very brief, very temporary stop on the island. He'd had some free time, decided to stop in and at least make sure everything was still standing.

Now, he was standing and staring because he hadn't really expected to see someone who looked so familiar. He blinked and wondered if maybe he was on something or if she was really there.

He didn't have to wonder for very long. Maybe it was because of the years she'd spent as a runaway, but Karolina was pretty quick to notice when she was being stared at. Which meant she also noticed who was doing the staring.

"Jim?"

Yeah, that cleared that up.

"Oh my gosh!"

And she was already bouncing over. Hope he was ready to have his arms full of Majesdanian glee.

"What the hell are you doing here?" Jim asked, sounding shocked. It had been years since he'd seen her and while he hadn't thought the worst, he had guessed he wouldn't see her again.

He did manage to wake up enough to catch her against him and return any hugs he got.

There was one. And it was epic and clingy.

"I don't even know! I think there was a freak portal that grabbed me from above LA and threw me here." The usual Fandom thing, then. "So here I am!"

"Of course, freak portals everywhere," he said, laughing and embracing her tightly. "How long's it been for you? It's been years for me."

"Oh, years," she confirmed, still clinging to him. She was all grown up now, a twenty-something. "What have you been doing? I've missed you."

But connections from her world to others seemed to be flimsy at best.

"Oh, you know, this and that," Jim said with an easy shrug. "Getting into trouble, getting out of trouble, and making people swoon."

Karolina snickered as she finally pulled back.

"So same old, same old, huh?" she teased.

"You know me, I like to keep things interesting," he said, shrugging. "What about you? Where've you been?"

"Oh, Los Angeles, Malibu, just... around." Things had been pretty confusing for a nice long while after she'd left Fandom. Some of it good, some of it painful. "Same old. Trying to be a good person."

Her smile was a little lopsided, there. Not for anything specific.

"What do you mean trying?" Jim asked her, shaking his head. "You don't have to try that. You are a good person."

"Well, trying to do good, then," she amended with a quiet laugh, not arguing against his point. "Things have just been tough from time to time, that's all."

"Are you all right?" he asked, brow furrowing in concern. "Everything okay?"

"More or less," she said, shrugging. "I mean, you know the gang. There's always something or other going on. But we've... I don't know, I guess we've settled down a little, you know? There's not as much huge drama anymore."

And that was good. Meant the days of constantly not being okay seemed to be behind them. At least for now.

"I guess 'not as much huge drama anymore' is a good enough endorsement," Jim said with a snicker. "How long do you think you're here for?"
