Fandom High 20 Year Reunion Mixer, Community Center, Saturday Evening

May 28, 2016 13:47

The bulky booze reserves Tamsin had reeled in during their last stop had no real end in sight. So great was their wealth that this time around, they'd actually just put wine and beer barrels out to function as tables across the community center ( Read more... )

These days, the decorators actually go out of their way to make sure a few artful shadows fall in the right places to accomodate the brooders.

"Home sweet home," Atton muttered as he parked himself in the shadowy area.

He'd gotten hit upside the head last night. He was going to swear up and over that it'd been in some combat engagement, and he had not at all not been paying attention when one of the 10-year-olds had decided to test his reflexes by throwing a lightsaber at his head.

(See, this is why he had never wanted a Padawan.)

And see, Sparkle had always gotten along with the kids at the temple! Hell, he'd probably give that ten year old a high five and some candy the next time he found himself visiting Coruscant.

"Hey, look who the cat dragged in," Sparkle drawled, smirking as he made his way over to park himself next to Atton. "Wasn't sure you were going to make it back in time for this thing, you know."

"Yeah, well, Brianna thought it was a good idea to get all the kids together for a long lecture about the Force last night," Atton said, rolling his eyes.

Then stopped rolling his eyes. It hurt.

"And I mean long."

"So, Brianna did a lecture," Sparkle summarized, smirking a little. "And let me guess, you were stuck in there the whole time. Making sure the kids didn't do anything stupid?"

Because... they were kids. They were smart, for kids, but they were still kids.

"She thinks my glowering is a 'handy peacekeeping tool'," Atton groused. "Who let that woman be in charge?!"

Well, you did, Atton, among other people.

"You really don't want me to answer that, do you?"

Sparkle was grinning at you, Atton. Grinning so much.

"So, did it work? Was the peace kept? Did the little nosepickers behave themselves?"

"They were fine," Atton said. Maybe a touch too quickly. "How about here? Anyone set the island on fire?"

Smooth.

Hey, if after over twenty years of living with Atton, Sparkle didn't know what that touch too quickly meant...

And that's why he was smirking a mile wide as he said, "Oh, yeah, the whole place burned to the ground while you were away. You can tell by how minimalist the decorations are tonight. Wish you'd been here, Atton, I really do."

"Don't do that."

Atton waved his finger vaguely in the direction of Sparkle's face. That.

"Shut up."

"But if I shut up, who'll tease you about whatever it was that happened?" See, Sparkle sounded totally reasonable as he asked that. "If you don't tell me, I'll find out from the younglings, you know. They like me."

"Yes, and it gets on my last nerve," Atton said. "Fine. Tym wanted to know if I could catch a lightsaber. With the back of my head."

Sparkle had at least learned a bit of discretion in the past twenty years, as could be evidenced by the fact that he wasn't throwing his head back and crowing. Instead, he was ducking his head and laughing into his drink. Totally different thing.

"Oh, shit. Let me guess... you caught it in the back of the head, alright?"

Yeah, Tym was so getting a high-five later.

And Atton was going to be mature, and not launch into a huge rant about how Sparkle should not be laughing about the fact one of the stupid bratty children assaulted him.

Instead he'd let a few fingers twitch in his hand and send a small but not insignificant quantity of Sparkle's drink flying up into his face.

"Ppbbth-- Hey!"

You know, once upon a time, Sparkle might have made a big show about being affronted by this injustice. Now he was mostly just laughing that much harder.

"God, no wonder Tym went right for the head, you asshole!"

He really didn't seem all that upset.

"See if I ever tell you anything again," Atton said. "If you get any ideas, I'm telling Tym you're dead, okay?"

He would not, but damn it, he could.
