Fandom High 20 Year Reunion Mixer, Community Center, Saturday Evening

May 28, 2016 13:47

The bulky booze reserves Tamsin had reeled in during their last stop had no real end in sight. So great was their wealth that this time around, they'd actually just put wine and beer barrels out to function as tables across the community center ( Read more... )

These days, the decorators actually go out of their way to make sure a few artful shadows fall in the right places to accomodate the brooders.

"Which means the kid'll be that much more thrilled to see me alive and well the next time I visit," Sparkle decreed. "And then we'll start bonding."

Read: plotting mischief.

"We have rules about that," Atton said. "Number one is that you don't bond with anyone. It's bad enough they keep yelling at me because the Temple cook is worse than you are."

"Hey, I offered to train the guy," Sparkle replied, beaming. "I said, 'hey, I've been working with your weird-assed ingredients for long enough, I bet I could teach him a thing or two about what the kids like,' and then I got a list of credentials handed back at me. I'm still convinced he lied on the resume, you know. He overboils the potatoes."

Sparkle had Opinions about this guy. Those had probably also kind of bled over into the younglings' opinions of him. Sorry, cook dude.

"The potatoes are fine," Atton said, more for the sake of argument than that he actually believed it. "Stop corrupting the students. It might not be the Dark Side, but it's not that much better."

"There is nothing wrong with raising a generation of Jedi who know what good food tastes like," Sparkle sniffed, managing to get most of his drink off of his face. Using his sleeve. Sigh. "Things can be healthy and good, you know. You're just sore because I introduced them to broccoli."

"Yeah, and what're they going to do with that if they're stuck watching Planet Mudhut in the middle of nowhere for two years?" Atton asked. "Practical, Sparks."

"They'll learn how to grow good food on Planet Mudhut," Sparkle replied, grinning. "They'll be that much more inclined to try, won't they?"

See? Totally practical. Jedi who weren't afraid to eat their damn vegetables would do great wherever they went.

"Or you could just let them eat their crappy rations in peace," Atton said, shaking his head.

He looked over the hall. "You see anyone you know?"

Sparkle paused, and then nodded and started pointing around the room.

"Minako's over there," he said, "and that's Tony Stark. Doctor Lecter..." That one came out slightly terse. There'd been a bit of a weird rift there for quite some time. Sparkle was doing his best, these days, to work around that one. "More or less the usual crowd that I was expecting to see here, really."

"Well, my suggestion is we not talk to Lecter and instead judge the fact he decided to drag his creepy ass in here," said Atton, whose feelings on Lecter had remained steadily the same across two full decades or more. "But Stark and Minako's not a bad haul."

He shrugged. "Don't know why I keep expecting Sia to show up to these things."

"I dunno," Sparkle replied, frowning thoughtfully as he looked around the room. "Something about all the old faces coming back, maybe? I sometimes catch myself wondering if I'll see Alec here, and god, nobody needs me to see Alec here."

Neither of them really needed the whole mess of issues that would come stampeding back along with certain visitors, did they?

There was a pregnant pause, and then Atton said, "And now you've convinced me to start drinking for the night."

"I'd say I've already started," Sparkle noted, "but for some reason I appear to be wearing most of mine."

Somehow.

Atton rolled his eyes. "Because you're a clumsy asshole," he said. And it had nothing to do with him. Really. "So you should go get us both drinks."

Sparkle gave a little snort at that, but he didn't argue, really.

"Sure," he replied. "What'll it be? Maybe there's the stuff for those rainbow things..."

Probably not, but something had been started on that day, even if it hadn't resulted in goats.
