They would have to take more of the heavy hitters out of the equation.

Jaime had been a bit hesitant to show up in the middle of the day, but he'd sort of convinced himself that that would be less suspicious than sneaking around at night or something, so he only looked mostly hesitant, as opposed to completely hesitant, as he poked his head into the attic and looked around.

"Hello? Ender?"

Ender recognized the voice. It took him a few moments to get his things in order, though, but those were quickly shoved aside.

He walked out of his room into the main chamber. "Jaime," he said, a slight smile on his face. "Hey."

"Hey." Jaime managed a slight smile of his own. "How's it going?"

Nice question, Reyes. Real insightful.

"Considering the circumstances," Ender said, where the word 'circumstances' covered so much: about life in Fandom, the upcoming battle, everything, "I'm okay. How about you?"

Now the implications of that question were probably even bigger.

It took some negotiating to get out of the hideout today, with protests about concussions and rest and all, but somehow Kate managed it. Mostly because she needed to get out and hear how things were progressing. Sitting still just wasn't happening.

And crossing the distance went just fine, which was a consolation after last night. She could still go out and not get caught.

"So apparently they have sonic tasers now," she announced to no one in particular as she showed up.

Leon sat up and looked at her. "Range? Area of effect?"

Things like "Hello" or "Gosh, are you okay?" weren't really his forte.

That was okay. Kate had given up on pleasantries a while ago.

"Dunno, and dunno," she said. "Well, no. I was several feet away from him. And the effects probably lasted for... I don't know, fifteen, twenty minutes?"

Leon brooded on that, sighed, and shrugged. "Wonderful. Let's hope they haven't mass-produced them. It's just one more thing that could go wrong."

Leon and Angelo had laid down behind some boxes yesterday, and they were still there. Maybe something worthwhile would happen. Leon didn't have much hope of that, but there was always the possibility.

"Water?" Ender asked. After picking up the first signs of stirring coming from behind the boxes, he'd made it over there, and he was now holding a large cup of the stuff.

Leon shrugged and took the cup. "Thanks." He drank some, and then set the cup down for Angelo.

"But what I'd really like is some assurance you're not going to get us all killed. Or worse."

Many who came around here were traumatized kids, or adults who hadn't been acquainted with much brutality.

Leon wasn't one of them, and so Ender didn't bother to put mildness in his voice. "I'm not going to get us all killed," he said, fixing Leon with an even look.

Anna walked through a wall and into the room. Yes, never mind that it was an attic.

"Hello?" she said. She hoped no one tried to attack her this time. That was always kind of annoying.

Ender wasn't nearly so kneejerk, so she had that going for her, at least, as he looked out the door with a frown. "Hello," he echoed.

Doors were for losers, Ender. Losers with heartbeats. "How can I help?" she asked, getting straight to the point.

"I don't know," Ender said slowly, recovering from the brief shock. "What can you do?"

Richie had been laying low, extra low, for the past couple of days. Apparently years of being an underage petty criminal and mostly evading the police were good training for something after all. But this was apparently the place to go. So here he was.

"Heard there might be something in the works," he said as he walked in. "What can I do?"

[I fail at pinging in so I felt I really should do so. But I'll be slow for a while.]

"We need all the manpower we can get," Ender said, looking up, "So the answer would be 'a lot'."

"Point me in the right direction," Richie said, jaw set. "I mean, I'm just a guy. I can't do anything fancy. No powers or anything. But I'm in anyway."

"Right now, the best thing you can do is poking your head into any organizational meetings you find," Ender told him. "We're going to need bodies to get into the castle, but right now we need brains."
