It took some negotiating to get out of the hideout today, with protests about concussions and rest and all, but somehow Kate managed it. Mostly because she needed to get out and hear how things were progressing. Sitting still just wasn't happening.
And crossing the distance went just fine, which was a consolation after last night. She could still go out and not get caught.
"So apparently they have sonic tasers now," she announced to no one in particular as she showed up.
That was okay. Kate had given up on pleasantries a while ago.
"Dunno, and dunno," she said. "Well, no. I was several feet away from him. And the effects probably lasted for... I don't know, fifteen, twenty minutes?"
"Long enough to keep someone under while they drag them in to detention," Ender said, waving a dismissive hand. "That's all I needed to know." He fixed his eyes on Kate. "You okay?"
"Just don't poke at the back of my head," she replied, dryly. She was so tired of that question. Nothing had been okay since Bod, how did anyone still bother with asking? "Doesn't look like I had a major concussion or anything."
Ender nodded, and disappeared down the back. A few moments and a jug of water later, he returned with a glass, which he handed to her. "What was the range of the taser?" he said. "Did he need to touch you with it?"
"I'll tell the next people to come in to keep an eye out for it," Ender said, pulling up a box and sitting back down. "We need a weapon like that neutralized as soon as possible."
"Yeah, along with Topher himself." Though she suspected his own people might not have been thrilled with him right now, either. "Kid's always been a pain in the ass but now he's dangerous too."

Things like "Hello" or "Gosh, are you okay?" weren't really his forte.

And please excuse her looking a little sour that it had been that geek. She felt ashamed for screwing up.
"Stark tech, no doubt."

Giving up on keeping her body going was not on the agenda right now.
