The Boards, Thursday Evening (Petey Sci-Fi Rehearsal)

Feb 02, 2012 02:33

Ah, the first day of rehearsals at the Boards. It was just the sort of thing to make Jono show up looking... if not happy then at least slightly less grumpy than usual, with a stack of scripts in his arms complete with sheet music. It might have been the therapeutic smashing of creepy dolls with a crowbar that had him in such a good mood. Or maybe ( Read more... )

Grab a script, make yourselves comfortable among the theatre seating, try to ignore the growing pile of brutalized dolls with crowbar-shaped blunt force trauma damage on them.

There's water with lemon in it today, and oranges, because while you don't really particularly need to worry about presentation today, it's cold season, and your directors are strictly anti-colds.

There are also a few spare crowbars, in case you feel like you might need one for the walk home later, because Jono is also anti-creepy-dolls.

Water with lemon and oranges.

How cute.

Vincent had a bag of muffins with him, just in case anyone wanted some carbs to go with their vitamin C.

Annie grabbed a script and found a spot that she felt was well-lit enough to see if anything small and creepy was sneaking up on her and settled in to read.

Poor thing should have maybe done her research and rented the movie before now, because her eyes were getting really wide.

"Hi," Petra said, sidling up next to Annie. "Want to walk back to the dorms together? Safety in numbers and all that? Because I have seen a few horror movies in my time and I don't want to be killed by dolls so please say yes."

And sing-through! This should be a breeze for anyone who already knows the show, of course. But those poor people who haven't had their Rocky Horror cherry popped yet...? Well, Jono seriously considered buying red lipstick so that he could draw a 'V' on their foreheads, this week.

Quinn had seen the movie, but she hadn't cared enough to find out who the lips at the beginning were.

That might have been a mistake. She realized as she was looking at the script and waiting for the read-through to start that the very first song, which was a solo, was, um. Hers.

No pressure, Quinnie.

"Are we doing 'Science Fiction' as a solo?" she asked, trying to sound like she didn't care.

[OOC: She'll do it, but she'd be open to offers of a duet/backing vocals/moral support.]

"Well, yeah," Troy said, blinking a bit. He hadn't even thought about that being a problem. "Do you have a concern about it?"

Quinn flashed a smile. "If you don't, I don't. I was just checking."

She was pretty good at feigning confidence. If deep inside she was still nervous about the solo aspect, or worried her voice was a little thin for the song ... well, that was what rehearsal was for.

"Should I sing it now, or just say 'Fuschia sings here'?"

Jonothon (and his trusty crowbar) were both there, keeping an ear out for people singing off-key, and an eye out for any freakish little dolls that might have some terrible desire to be smashed to bits with a hefty chunk of solid iron.

Dolls were so much more eerie when they were peering around seating at you in a theatre. Don't judge him, damn it.

"Caramel macchiato," Kenzi said, holding out a cup. "..are we doing demolitions today?"

"Of a sort," Jono replied with a wry little smile as he accepted the coffee with the hand that wasn't firmly clutching his makeshift weapon. "It's another one of those days, I think."

If you'd been on the island for more than a semester, you'd probably know the type.

[I'm crashing now! I'll grab pings when I can through the day!]

Because there are sets to build and lights to arrange and props to wrangle, and they're welcome to come in to do any of the above whenever they so desire.

Even when the island is being invaded by horrifying playthings.

Kenzi had come in caffienated. Early. She'd missed the dolls.

Let's see how long that lasts.

Yes, let's.

Why don't we start with a small, sloshy sound as a wet little body in a mildewed black dress shuffled around behind a curtain, then poked its head out to look at her. "Plaaaaay?"

Um?

Kenzi turned, expecting a little kid, and blinked. Hard.

I have a dragonfruit. It is hot pink and mysterious. I killed the dragon myself on Wednesday morning to get it.

That said, I still totally jumped ten feet when I refreshed my flist and that doll icon was the first thing I saw at 2:30 in the morning.

Dragons are way less creepy.

There's a single-page text version of the script here, if anybody else is interested.
