OP, I grew up watching TNG and DS9... and even studied Star Trek in college, I kid you not (critics' opinion is that DS9 is the "best" series, FYI). I started watching Classic at some point, and it's enjoyable in a different sort of way -- from a social analysis standpoint, mostly (it's from a totally different era). Cheesy, but I like the relationship of the main three a lot.
I feel your pain, OP. I don't mind TOS, and I really like TNG and Enterprise, but I rather dislike Voyager and DS9. Liking Enterprise and not DS9 seems to be a bit unpopular. But, really, different people have different taste. Nothing wrong with that! And liking certain series and not others doesn't make you a better or worse fan.
I grew up watching TOS and never took to TNG, though I enjoyed DS9 a lot. I think I would've enjoyed TNG much more if it hadn't been claiming to be the future of TOS; there was so much about TOS that they just dropped out of embarrassment or whatever and I get why but would've liked an explanation or five in the canon of how they got from Point A to Point B, socially, instead of pretending that for instance "Turnabout Intruder" never happened. (I approach media in a more Watsonian than Doylist way and it really bothers me when I can't find a reason for changes in canon that works inside the universe instead of just "the creators decided to change it
( ... )
Maybe you should watch the Animated Series/Movies to make you feel better, OP? There are a few good stories in there and the same cast for the most part.
Of course you may end up hating them and feeling worse but on that note, I'd like to put forward the idea that it's up to you how you define yourself. You like Star Trek, call yourself a Trekkie or a fan. Those who'll get on your case about it aren't going to be worth your time.

whatever, I love TOS more than any other kind of Trek but you're not some kind of inferior Trekkie if you didn't like it. You're good.

For me, I adore TNG, DS9, and TOS, all for different reasons. Most of my TOS reasons have to do with cheese and McCoy :P
