I grew up watching TOS and never took to TNG, though I enjoyed DS9 a lot. I think I would've enjoyed TNG much more if it hadn't been claiming to be the future of TOS; there was so much about TOS that they just dropped out of embarrassment or whatever and I get why but would've liked an explanation or five in the canon of how they got from Point A to Point B, socially, instead of pretending that for instance "Turnabout Intruder" never happened. (I approach media in a more Watsonian than Doylist way and it really bothers me when I can't find a reason for changes in canon that works inside the universe instead of just "the creators decided to change it".)

Anyhow, if you weren't around in the 60s and 70s even as a kid, I can see why TOS would be hard to watch. I can't watch "I Love Lucy" or I want to throw things at the screen, but I also remember how much more liberal TOS was about women's rights and racial issues than other things that were going on at the time and how inspiring they were for me as a child, and people who are younger do not have that context. TOS is also sillier and campier.

It does jar me to see people using the term "Trekkie" who don't like TOS because I think of Trekkies as TOS fans specifically (probably because my dad took me to my first Trek con when I was 13 and Trekkies are and always will be those people to me) but I don't think you're not a good Star Trek fan if you don't like TOS.
