3rd Floor Common Room | Tuesday Afternoon

Ronan missed his car. It used to be so easy to stomp his way out of Monmouth and get into the BMW and take off. He could find a drag race somewhere outside of town and take the money of every single child that showed up and then come back with Gansey none the wiser ( Read more... )

After her entire two classes (seriously, since when did that count as a full day of high school?), Amy was ready for some of the free food Mara had told her about.

"Hi, do you mind if I-- bird."

There was a bird in that guy's shoulder. Did that guy know there was a bird on his shoulder?

Chainsaw flapped her wings at the newcomer and squawked loudly a few times. Food was forgotten for the moment, apparently.

Ronan glanced back over his shoulder. "Superb observation, there. Mensa must be knocking down your door."

"Actually, they already offered me membership for knowing better than to hang out with wild birds," Amy quipped back. Well, it was sort of a quip. "Or is that your pet?"

"Say that any louder, she might try and peck you."

So yes, she was a pet. She was just a picky, peculiar pet.

"She's tame. And clean. You won't get whatever latest exotic disease is in the news from her."

The new semester always brought out a little extra socialness in Raven. That combined with having the day off meant she'd decided to bring her book out to the common room to read in, instead of hiding out in her room.

"Ooo, nice bird," she said, wiggling her fingers in greeting at Chainsaw.

Admittedly, she was probably a bit biased.

"All this attention's going to spoil her," Ronan said dryly. Chainsaw waved her wings at the wiggling, giving a high pitched squeak of approval. "She'll let it go to her head."

"I don't know, I think a pretty lady deserves some extra attention now and then." Raven plopped down in one of the chairs. "You're one of the new students, right? I'm Raven."

"Ronan. Chainsaw's the bird," he said absently, watching Chainsaw squeak a bit at hearing she was pretty. Ronan was pretty sure she understood everything everyone said. "Yeah, I'm new. How can you tell?"

Because he didn't want to look new.

Rapunzel bounced into the common room in search of food, still sort of riding a high from her rappelling trick earlier, with Pascal tucked on her shoulder.

"Oh, what a pretty bird!" she exclaimed, forgetting the 'hello' she'd started to say. Pascal, for his part, made a whirring sort of noise and immediately began to fade to tones of pink and blonde to blend in with her shoulder, lest the bird see him.

Ronan was pretty sure Chainsaw had never gotten this much attention. People back home didn't really care about Chainsaw one way or another. She was Ronan's bird and that was out that.

"People act like they've never seen a raven before," he said mildly, sparing a glance Rapunzel's way. "I'm sure she appreciates it."

He, on the other hand, was a little weirded out by it.

"I don't know if I have," Rapunzel admitted, shrugging a shoulder shyly. "At least, not outside of a book, before. Most people I know don't walk around with birds on their shoulders."

She paused, giggling a little as she felt Pascal actively burrowing into her hair. "Um, what does she eat? 'Cause, um, I have a pet chameleon who's hiding from her right now."

"Most people I know don't walk around with chameleon's either," he returned, giving Chainsaw a look. She pecked at a piece of bread and then eyed him. "She won't eat your lizard."

Hopefully she wouldn't. Ronan picked Chainsaw up just in case and held her against his chest.

Jalian really was trying to get out more. It had occurred to her that even if she did try to get back to her timeline, experience in this one couldn't hurt.

So, she was wandering the dorms. She poked her head into the common room, saw people, and nodded. "Hello."

"Hello," Ronan returned. Chainsaw squawked a hello of her own and flapped her wings. She was friendlier than he was. "Busy place."

Jalian shrugged. "All students live here." She gave the bird a slightly interested glance. Then remembered she was trying to be friendly, even to males.

"If you don't like it, the forest is emptier." That was totally friendly, right?

Ronan tilted his head. Chainsaw squawked and flew herself up to Ronan's shoulder, pecking at his shirt.

"Presumptuous," Ronan noted. "Who said I didn't like it? Not me."
