Sunday wasn't exactly a study day, but he'd had a slow week and didn't want to fall behind. He worked better with other people around and so had his Chemistry homework out in front of him. Jack was sitting cross-legged on the floor, occasionally glancing at the door as if hoping for a distraction.
Bobby wasn't looking for his brother. He was ransacking all the other common rooms for cookies since his common room was shamefully out of Oreos.
But his brother was a welcome bonus. "Hi Jack!" he said happily. "Do you have any cookies down here? Oh, are you doing homework? What are you working on?"
And of course the distraction came in the form of Bobby. Of course. "Cookies are in there," he pointed out one of the cabinets. "Bottom shelf behind the marshmallows." Jack tossed his pen down. "I'm working on Chemistry. Mostly working on Chemistry." Not really concentrating on Chemistry, if he was honest.
"Marshmallows?" he asked eagerly, scurrying to the cabinet to find both them and the cookies. "Do you think Oreos and marshmallows would taste good together?" Maybe if he made them into some sort of a sandwich.
Elphaba was out and about the dorms that evening, and stopped when she saw Jack in the common room.
She stepped in, dressed in a simple black dress as usual. She peered over the rims of her glasses at him. "A strange choice of places to study," she said, barely restraining her smile.
"Well, what are you studying?" Elphaba said, coming over. "There are a few subjects I may be able to help with, if you truly do need assistance. I'm limited in what I know of many subjects, however."
"You bet you did," Jack agreed, offering a smile at his snark buddy. "This was a lot easier when there was a live teacher and classmates to borrow study notes from."
"I have the notes and study guides, but I learn better with people." Jack grimaced. "I might have to start a study group. Sure you don't want in on the ground floor? There are benefits."
There was a small white kitten wandering into the common room like she owned it. A little bit after her came a girl with long dark blue hair and white eyes who looked much less like she owned the place.
Really, all she'd wanted was apricot juice that the floor below was out of. Hinata hadn't expected all of the people and paused, a bit dubiously, in the doorway--they were all new people--while Yei went to investigate a... bit of fluff on the floor.
"It wasn't, but then Bobby opened the cookies and everyone started showing up. I thought it might have been a superpower thing, but it happened at home too whenever food was around, so it's probably a teenager thing."
Well, if you asked Will (which Jack hadn't, since they had yet to meet), every day was a study day, as evidenced by the books tucked under one arm. This particular moment, however, was a searching-for-food moment, and although his own common room was certainly well stocked, there was a dearth of people around to explain just what most of the cupboards' contents were, exactly.
Which was all a very long-winded way of saying William was poking his head into the third floor common room. "Ah! Excellent. Good evening, all," he greeted.
"Hey," Jack replied with a casual nod. He noticed the books and decided to take a chance. "I don't suppose you know your way around a Chemistry textbook?"

She glanced at the homework, then laughed.
"Chemistry?" she said. "I think I dodged a bullet on that one."

Or possibly answer keys, but her dad was a teacher so she wasn't supposed to say that out loud.

"I was merely surprised," she admitted, stepping into the room. "I was not expecting," a crowd of people she didn't know, "the room to be so busy."
