Fifth Floor Common Room; Sunday Morning [ 05/09 ].

May 09, 2010 08:50

Sleep? Who could possibly sleep at a time like this? Although Ariel was absolutely exhausted from yesterday, the seahorses in her stomach were stampeding about in excitement and so she didn't have much for sleeping. Even the thrill of sleeping in a human bed was enough to keep her up. So it was tired but still bouncing Ariel that had padded ( Read more... )

Kate had been on her way to see if Bod happened to be alone and awake yet, or failing that, she'd been thinking of going to the roof, but... There was something going on in this common room. She had to investigate.

And boggle.

"What are you doing?" she asked from the doorway.

Ariel twirled around quickly at the sound of a voice, red hair whipping around and the momentum almost making her lose her balance. She wavered a little, but she barely seemed to notice as she brandished forward what was, for all intents and purposes, a pair of tongs as if it was the most magical item in all the world. She squeezed it with her hand, snapping it at the air.

She didn't know what it was but she knew one thing. It was amazing!

And, if the tongs weren't amazing enough, she gestured toward everything else...and it really was practically everything else...that she'd extracted from the drawers and cupboards with utter glee.

Uh huh.

That was one overly excited person. Overly excited about tongs and... random crap, even.

So, Kate was just going to take a moment to raise an eyebrow, eyeing the girl and the mess around her, before asking, "Why?"

Why? Ariel's eyes widened at the girl in surprise for such a question and she swung her arms in a gesture toward all the wonderful, amazing things that surrounded her in a clear indication of why not?

A better question, if you asked Ariel, would be why were all these fantastic treasures hidden away in all these drawers and cupboards in the first place?

Hayley wandered up into the common and then proceeded to watch Ariel's searching frenzy.

Somebody was crazy.

"Whaaaaaaat are you doing?"?

Wasn't it obvious? Ariel smiled at the other girl, a great big bright smile of pure excitement as she took the funnel she'd most recently extracted from the drawer and then placed it, at a jaunty little angle, on top of her head, just like Scuttle had taught her. It never once occurred to Ariel that perhaps a funnel hat might be on the same level of fashion as a dress made of sails and ropes, nor did she even once question why a hat would be kept in a kitchen. Instead, she simple presented the accessory and waited hopefully for what the other girl thought of it?

Oh, and there was another one! Ariel grabbed it off the counter and offered it out in case the other girl wanted such a cute accessory for herself.

Hayley, for her part, thought it was kind of an adorable crazy.

And proceeded to take the offered 'hat' and place it on her own head with a giggle.

"Gee, you don't talk much, do ya?"

Ariel's hands clapped together happily to see the other hat donned, nodding with approval, before shaking her head to answer the question. Yesterday, she might have been just a bit forlorn about it, but, this morning, surrounded by all these wonderful things, it was impossible to be forlorn about anything, so the shake of her head came with a silent giggle, a sort of general acceptance and a shrug, and she went to see what else was in the drawer.

Ariel glance up from the flower vase she was inspecting with a broad grin and a sort of chuckle, shaking her head. There was no fire, except perhaps the fire burning in her heart for all these neat things. She gave the other girl a little wave of greeting, before sheepishly shrugging and looking over the vase again. This, she actually knew what it was; she just wished she had some flenningals to put inside of it!

Ariel snorted. Anything interesting? All of it was interesting! She wouldn't even know where to start with that. Her current favorite was still the whisk, so she reached for that to show it off a little, waving it in the air and wishing she'd figured out what an omelette was. But she'd get there eventually, she was sure of it. She nodded her head a few enthusiastic times to answer Alex's question about her being new, and then brought her hands to her nametag from yesterday to let her know that her name was ARIEL.

And she knew there'd be more A names eventually! She liked Alex; she still thought she had the best name of her sisters, and Alex was better than her sister's names, too.

Diana had decided to avoid the newbie rush by locking herself in her room and doing a East Corridor marathon. But now it was morning and she needed food. And apparently, she wouldn't even have to look long.

"Did you see the Cheerios in there anywhere?" She asked brightly.

Ariel didn't even know what Cheerios were. She looked up blinking from the tin of tea she was inspecting, and then cast her wide, doleful eyes toward the clutter that had accumulated in her effort to explore every inch of the kitchen.

She looked back at the other girl and shrugged. But now she really wanted to know what the Cheerios were.

"Um...big box. Has a bee on it. A very happy bee who I always thought looked too perky to be selling something that is generally eaten before parents are fully awake." Diana realized that wasn't very helpful. "Breakfast cereal. You eat it with milk. Part of a balanced, if somewhat artificial, breakfast." She walked over to the clutter and tried to see if she could also find a bowl.

Oh, there were plenty of bowls. There were bowls everywhere. Ariel had gone through every one, marveling at the different sizes and postulating on what all the different uses might be. Most of them were hats. Some of them were good seashell replacements, although most of them were too big for Ariel's shells.

And, really, honestly, not a whole lot of that was very helpful, but at least Ariel easily knew what box and breakfast were. And she could have sworn she saw one as described. She didn't remember the B looking exactly perky, but okay. Now where was it? While the other girl went for a bowl, Ariel searched around for what she thought was meant.

There it was! Proudly, she brandished the box.

What? It had a B on it!
