Hoshi had been mildly surprised not to have any little visitors, this morning. She debated staying in her room, but decided to head out in search of food. A little dose of gossip wouldn't hurt, either.

"Hey Joan," she said, smiling. "I see you have a visitor."

Jared had a huge stack of pancakes in front of him. "Hi, Hoshi!" he said, though it was muffled by the mouthful of pancakes he was eating.

"Don't talk with your mouth full," Joan admonished. "Morning, Hoshi. Want some pancakes?"

"Pancakes sound great!" said Hoshi, smiling. "I waited around in my room for a little while but no one showed up. Guess I'm off the hook this year."

Joan poured some batter on the griddle. "Yeah, Jared's the only one who showed up for me so far. And he was here last year."

"My father," a very short little girl with no hair and an intricately pleated dress snarled despite having only one facial expression, "is a...a...bloody idiot."

Joan tried not to giggle at this girl's indignant words. "I'm sorry to hear that. Who is your father?"

"The Emperor," she replied helpfully, examining her long lacquered fingernails.

Carmela didn't think she was that hungry until she got a whiff of pancakes. "Hello!" she said as she entered the common room. "May I have some pancakes, please?"

Joan smiled at the girl, thinking that there was something familiar about her. "Sure thing," she said. "Do you need help finding your parents?"

"No, I don't think that will be too difficult, Aunt Joan," said Carmela.

Aunt Joan, huh? That made her grin. And glance over at Hoshi.

"No, I don't think it will be," she agreed. "But can you tell me your name?"

"Pancakes!"

Why yes, that was the sound of one Daniel Ichiro Gregson making his way into the common room and finding out something good was being made.

"... Do you have to be so loud?" And that was the sound of Kate following other-her's son into the room, rolling her eyes.

"HI, KATE, HI!"

Jared liked Kate, okay?

"Who's that boy?"

Well, it was nice to be liked. Even if you had absolutely no idea who it was that was currently liking you. "Hi," Kate replied tentatively. "This is--"

Dani cut her off. "I'm Dani," he announced. "Or Ichiro the Great." Kate raised an eyebrow at him.

"What? It's my samurai name!"

"Jared, Kate doesn't know you yet," Joan reminded him. "Hey, Kate. You got one too, huh?"

She tilted her head, trying to work out the boy's parentage.

Vivienne associated glowing portals with visits from her dad. She also knew it was one of those things she wasn't supposed to talk about because people would think her crazy. Of course, her family already was the crazy family, so she didn't really see what difference it made.

Mom and dad was supposed to live on this floor. She had no idea why they were here, but finding them seemed like the best strategy. However, pancakes were distracting.

"Hey, honey, are you lost?" Joan asked, spotting the girl.

"I'm looking for mommy and daddy," Vivienne said. "Can I have pancakes?"

Because while her parents were important, so were pancakes.

"Of course," Joan said. "And if you tell me who your parents are, I can try to help you find them."
