Joan hadn't been terribly surprised to be woken up by a child this morning. She was kind of glad it was a child she recognized, even though she was mildly disappointed that she didn't seem to have a future child with her boyfriend.

Then again, she was grateful it wasn't the kid with the wings to give her tiny heart attacks all weekend.

Carmela didn't think she was that hungry until she got a whiff of pancakes. "Hello!" she said as she entered the common room. "May I have some pancakes, please?"

Joan smiled at the girl, thinking that there was something familiar about her. "Sure thing," she said. "Do you need help finding your parents?"

"No, I don't think that will be too difficult, Aunt Joan," said Carmela.

Aunt Joan, huh? That made her grin. And glance over at Hoshi.

"No, I don't think it will be," she agreed. "But can you tell me your name?"

"My name's Carmela. Isn't it a pretty name?" she asked. "My mom named me after Aunt Carmela. She was one of my mom's first friends at Fandom High."

"It's a beautiful name for a beautiful girl," Joan said. "A beautiful girl who totally deserves pancakes."

"Thank you!" said Carmela. "Eating a good breakfast is important, especially since I have a busy weekend planned with my parents."

"Oh, do you?" Joan asked, heading over to the stove. "Tell me what you have planned."

"I want to see all the stuff they've told me about," said Carmela. "The school, the dorms, the park, the places they both work at... everything!"

"That will be a busy weekend," Joan agreed. "But I'm sure they'll love to show you."

"It's going to be fun!" said Carmela. "Hopefully I can get through the whole weekend without revealing too much about the future."

"I bet you'll be fine," Joan said. "Lots of kids show up here every year."

"Aww, how polite!" said Hoshi, smiling at the little girl. "Someone did a good job teaching you manners."

"Domo arigato," said Carmela, giving a little bow.

Hoshi raised an eyebrow. "Do you speak Japanese?" she asked.

"I have to. My grandmother won't speak to me in any other language," said Carmela. "Of course, she knows English too, but she pretends that she doesn't."
