It was a nice enough morning that Karal went down to the stables early, so he'd have time to take Trenor out to graze before opening the library ( Read more... )

There was a Jeff here.

And where there was a Jeff, this early in the morning, there was also a Nana. Attached to a leash, and not particularly caring much about it. Which is to say that it wasn't so much Jeff walking Nana as Jeff getting dragged by Nana.

And then she paused.

It was that... thing.

Trenor saw her and his head shot up, ears pricked forward. He took one step towards her and stopped, torn between playing with the hairy thing and staying with Karal.

He pawed the ground, prompting Karal to look at him in surprise, then jerked his head, flicking the lead rope out of Karal's hand, and leapt happily towards the hairy thing.

He felt as guilty as a horse could, knew he was being a Bad Horse, but it was just too much fun!

"Trenor!" Karal gaped after his horse, frozen in shock.

And that would be the point where Jeff's arm was nearly wrenched out of place as Nana went from straining the leash forwards to straining it backwards, scrambling away in a manner befitting of a particularly scared housecat.

"NANA!"

In the process, she completely floored Jeff, who hit the ground hard, was dragged along several feet, and then let go of the leash, which skittered over the ground after the panicking dog.

"NANA! COME BACK! THIS IS NO TIME TO REPORT TO SPY TANK COMMAND!"

"TRENOR, WHOA!" Karal called after him with little hope as he ran over to Jeff.

Trenor whickered and sped up to a canter, following after his playmate, careful not to get to close as he bounced along after her. Karal he ignored completely.

"Spy tank command?" he asked Jeff as crouched next to him.

It was early. Chris figured it would be safe for him to run into town to buy Lana flowers before anyone else was awake and out.

When he saw Karal and a horse, he involuntarily shuddered. It was probably a very good thing he and Johnny hadn't actually found horses the other day.

He tried to sneak past without being spotted.

Trenor snorted, ears pointing hopefully at the new person, because new people could often be persuaded to give him treats. It caught Karal's attention, and he looked over and smiled. "Good morning, Chris."

No, he hadn't listened to the radio. He did wonder why Chris seemed to be sneaking, though.

Crap.

Chris forced a smile. "Morning, Karal. You're up early."

"I wanted to take Trenor out before the library," he explained, shortening the lead and walking over. Trenor stretched his nose out towards Chris. "Is everything all right? You seem a bit...unsettled."
