What you will need to fill in on the form?
- Firstly, your name/username.
- Your contact/email or link to an unlocked journal post (unless the LJ PM option is turned on) details so we can contact you if there is a problem with the nomination.
- The name/username of the nominee
- The contact/email/or link to an unlocked journal post (unless LJ PM option is turned on) details of the nominee.
(tip: Help with finding nominee email addresses here)
The a way of contacting the nominee MUST be provided so we can inform them of their nomination and ask for their acceptance.
All email addresses provided will be used for this community's purposes ONLY.
LJ's will need at least 1 unlocked entry that we can reply to unless the PM feature is on.
- Then you select the categories you are nominating them for. One person can be nominated for up to 3 categories.
For the Amazing Achievement and Marvelous Mod categories you may submit joint nominations [one nomination for a group of nominees] the nominees will be treated as one entity, they would stand no more chance of winning than any other nominee and they would all need to accept the nomination to go through.
- You will also need to provide a paragraph about why you are nominating them for each category you are nominating them for; why do they deserve an award and what makes them special? This will help the panel with their decision so the more enthusiastic, detailed and factual the better, don't hold back!
Please consider: 'fandom jargon' - When explaining why someone deserves an award please bear in mind that not all of the judges will be from your fandom. You could be talking about a community, ficathon or a term that is well used and recognised in your fandom but if the judges don't know what you mean it will be hard to judge. Please keep this in mind and explain the significance of things even if they are obvious to you so the gravity of what you are saying is not lost on the judges.
- reference links to some of the nominee's work/posts/sites (Maximum of 5 per category, If they are locked please posts see below) to help prove your point and convince the panel! The more specific the links the better as the judges my not have the time or inclination to search whole journals. [more info below]
- You will also be asked about displaying the nomination [see below for details]
The awards are judged on the strength of you nomination -your comments and evidence links you provide to back it up.

The links should be used to back up your words, link to posts that best show what you are trying to say.
Some examples are:
- Fiction the nominee has beta'd
- sites or communities they run
- posts or discussions showing their personality or something they've done
- something they did for you or someone else
posts praising them
- helpful post/comments they've made
- examples of their work
- awards they have already won
- what they inspired you to do
- a post that shows them in a good or inspirational light
- a post/site the shows what they've achieved...
Back to top What if the nominees posts are locked?
[meaning the judges may not be able to view them]
Don't fill out the form yet, do the following:
- Email fostars@ymail.com with the subject 'locked posts'
- In the main body of the email provide the nominee's email and/or username and the links to the posts you would want to link to.
- We will ask them if it is ok for a nominator (you) to provide us with the content of the posts for the purposes of this award community.
- Once we have permission we will let you know. You can then send us copies of the entries (not screen caps) by email and fill out the form with the rest of your nomination noting in the reference box that you have emailed the posts.
- This is to protect the nominee's privacy - they locked the posts for a reason.
Back to top Important info- display nomination? [#8 above]
Nominator identity is kept secret. No names/usernames are given out/posted at all. It's up to you if you reveal you nominated someone.
For categories like 'Amazing achievement' and 'Contribution to the fandom' what the achievement or contribution is will be in the email/post to the nominees asking for their acceptance of the nomination. But that is all, no further details will be given at this point.
We will however post why all nominees were nominated at the end of the round. You can let us know how much you are comfortable with us revealing in the area provided on the form as some nominations are more personal/private than others. You should also consider whether the text will give away who nominated them. Don't hold back when writing your nomination, just choose the appropriate option for you. Please also consider how much the nominee would be comfortable with being posted.
The options will be:
- Post all select this if you wish us to post the whole nomination.
- Post keywords select this if you wish us to edit out parts we feel would give you away or are too personal or, if need be, select just keywords to post.
- Post my keywords select this option if you wish to choose which keywords or parts of the nomination we post and then write or copy them into the text box provided.
Please consider: If you select 'Post my keywords' in the form please remember to think why you're selecting it. It's so we can post them at the end of the round so the nominee has some idea why they were nominated. Therefore please consider if your nominee would know what is meant by the keywords you have chosen - Don't be too cryptic if you can help it.
Back to top Rules/Guidelines

- A nominee can be nominated for up to 3 categories.

- No repeat nomination - if a person is already nominated in a category do not nominate them for the same category, in the same round again (Current nominees lists and numbers of nominee spaces will be posted and updated during a round as fast as we can). This is to prevent the awards becoming a popularity contest. If the person you wanted to nominate doesn't win this time you can always nominate them next round.
- Past winners cannot be nominated in categories they've already won.
- Past nominees can be nominated in any category again (providing they didn't win). Please see past nominee lists linked to in the archive section of our user-info.

- A max of 5 links are accepted per nomination.

Back to top Sending the nomination
There will be a link to the nomination form in the user-info during a round.
Fields with an * are manditory.
Once you have clicked submit you will see this screen:
Whilst the form is sending the bar at the top will fill.
Once it has sent it will say 'form sent' next to the bar. Press continue to go to back to our user-info.
Back to top What happens when we receive your nomination?
When you submit the form the nomination is sent to our email account.
- All nominations are sorted on a first come first served basis.
- We do the first check of the nomination to make sure everything required is there and to make sure the nominee is eligible [not a judge, hasn't won the category before etc]
- If there is a problem we will email the nominator [cannot contact nominee, category full etc]. If the category is full we will keep the nomination in case another nominee declines and we can then fit them in - again it's first come first served. If the problem can be sorted within a reasonable time frame the nomination will stand, otherwise the place will go to the next nominee.
- We put the nominee on the nominee list
- An email is sent to the nominee asking if they accept the nomination. A few words to explain why they were nominated is sent for Amazing Achievement and Contribution to Fandom nominations.
- If the nominee declines they are removed from the list
- If they accept the list is updated with Accepted
- The nomination is saved to one of our hard drives
- After the round the nominations will be packaged and sent to the judges for consideration. [only required info is sent - nominee name/username, testimonial and links.
- Once judging is over the results and awards will be posted.
- Nomination details will be posted [testimonials and links (why the nominee was nominated)] depending on the posting option the nominator selected in the form. Nominator name is never revealed, that is up to the nominator themselves. If a testimonial contains sensitive information and the nominator selected 'Post All' we will email it to the nominee and gain their permission before posting.
