What Gabe had planned for the party was nothing short of awesome, in his eyes. The place had been cleaned up nicely, and he'd hung no less than ten rolls of streamers in the living room, kitchen, hall, and den. There were possibly a hundred or so balloons, and the trampoline was indeed set up, in the side yard which was mostly free of snow.
Most importantly were the guests who'd come to help him with the surprise. It wasn't too surprising for just Gabe to jump out from behind the couch with two party hats on (side-by-side, looking like a weird hat version of Madonna's cone bra) and shout; a group of people, on the other hand, was far more surprising.
"They're on their way," he announced, when his phone beeped, and everyone hid; the music was turned off and the conversations fell to a hush.
Renée was the first of the guests to arrive at the party, courtesy of her ride being coordinator of the party himself. As soon as she arrived the two got to work on finishing up the decorations. She was put in charge of the streamers, hanging them all over, occasionally throwing the rolls to cover the furniture that was too high for her to reach. In fact, there was a roll of green streamers stuck on the top of the fridge. She had tried to climb up on the counter to grab it, but she was forced to give up the quest when Gabe gave the call for everyone to get ready to hide.

It took every ounce of her will not to jump up and scream 'Surprise!' as soon as she heard the door open. No, she had to wait for him to turn on the light. Renée stifled an irritated whine; Harri was taking forever! Once the light came on she jolted from her hiding place behind the couch, arms flung up into the air. "SURPRISE!"
