"Wait, there's no such thing as unicorns?"

Today is the best. Yesterday, it was like someone just flipped a switch, and it was suddenly autumn. The humidity is down, and it hasn't hit eighty in two days. I can comfortably wear a jumper at least part of the time. The leaves are changing, and it's just amazing to be outside. I feel alive again. And youth this morning was tons of fun (we ( Read more... )

Autumn thrills me to no end. It has a certain quality to it that invigorates my whole being. I wish it lasted longer ( ... )

Dan's out of town. But see here, missy, people in the east should not be asking people in the west why they are up so late ( ... )

Ah, I see. And I beg to differ. I do not have four children.

I confess that I did. As you say, he's much more interesting than Bella, and as Meyer points out, that first day is much more interesting for Edward than for Bella. The different perspective is fascinating. Interesting that your friend doesn't think Edward's language is sufficiently dated; I'd just assume that his speech patterns have evolved with the English language. I mean, I speak differently now than I did ten years ago, or six, or four, and I'm nowhere near as old as Edward.

Wasn't it? I really thought it was NJO. Not that I've read any of them, either; in fact, the only Star Wars novels I've read are the Boba Fett trilogy, a few of the short YA novels, and a couple of the graphic novels. The former were fun; I enjoyed them a lot. And you are absolutely right about Mara Jade. She is awesome. I always liked the stories about the old Jedi, too: Nomi Sunrider and Ulic Qeldroma (I'm probably butchering the spelling heinously) and so forth. That's more ( ... )

WHAT? Were you going to TELL us? I should not have to make snide comments about your motherhood to get you to tell us such trifling details. Congratulations! So 0.2...that's, what, eight weeks? No wonder you keep having crazy weeks. Are you guys excited? How do the kids feel about it?

Sorry, I don't mean to badger you. That's terribly exciting news, though.

Hm. She's an Edward fan, is she? I'm with you on that one; Edward's thoughts are much too interesting for me to forfeit them in favour of his allure.

Funny. I'm sure we've discussed them; I know that I knew you liked Timothy Zahn ("liked", ha - understatement, much?). You are right: I'm a pathetic excuse for a Star Wars buff. Someday, I will get around to the novels. I've no idea when, but someday ( ... )

Hey, most people wait until at least twelve weeks since there's much less risk at that point. Since I've been feeling completely crummy (a sign things are going well), I'm confident enough to share the news with a few dear friends. Besides, I didn't tell you last time until I only had two weeks to go ( ... )

All right, point taken. Even I know that the first trimester is supposed to be the most delicate stage. Was it really that late when I learned about William? I don't even remember anymore. I'm glad you think it's going well, although very sorry that it's at the cost of your personal comfort.

Goodness, this is your first round of severe morning sickness? Most women would positively kill for that.

Is there such a thing as a Star Wars fan who doesn't know who Mara Jade is? I'd almost consider that an oxymoron ( ... )

I've been extremely lucky on the morning sickness front, yes. Unfortunately I've had other issues for which I would gladly have traded morning sickness so if this is as bad as it gets, I'm okay. I really should not complain except I'm getting rather good at it. Why quit now ( ... )

*laugh* Why quit, indeed? Isn't it lame how fun complaining is? I always feel guilty doing it, but it's just so darn satisfying.

I suppose. I have a heard time, though, envisioning a Star Wars fan who hasn't done enough reading on the side to at least be aware of the existence of the more prominent of the book characters.

No, I hadn't noticed that, although it doesn't surprise me in the slightest. My sister certainly draws breasts much smaller than most graphic artists I've seen. We used to joke about the shapes of comic book women. "One being with one purpose"? That's hilarious. So they're living creatures now, are they?

That reminds me of this pane from one Spiderman comic. It's a full-page illustration of a female vigilante in a front-zip bodysuit. She's probably at least a DD, and the suit is unzipped to about midway down her bust. The whole thing is ludicrous, especially considering that she's supposed to be flying through the air and not falling out of her clothes. I ask you, what sensible superhero (or even ( ... )

No, not necessarily. Some fans are real purists. The books aren't always true to the characters and for some, that's more pain than it's worth. Also, some Star Wars fans don't like reading. It's easy to think every Star Wars fan is a geek, but Star Wars is much more far-reaching than that as far as appeal goes ( ... )

Whoosh, it's crazy around here. I had one sister come and stay for a few days and just after she left, my sister from San Diego had to evacuate and they're staying here. Their home is going to be okay, but nobody can breathe because the smoke and ash is so thick ( ... )

Oh, goodness, that's nuts. I'm glad your sister and her family are all right. I hope your sanity is still intact as well.

Thank you, and no worries. I'm not in any rush. (Jane's birthday! How old is she now? Six? Seven? I can't even remember, except that she was a baby when we first met, and now she's very much not. Scary.)

It is what it is. Mostly, I try to forget it; occasionally, I make jokes. Lately, I've been fantasizing about binding (especially considering the physical rigours of the military), but I don't suppose I'd ever actually do it. It sucks, though, that I got the size in my family. It makes me want to rail against the supreme injustice of life that my mother actually got hers augmented.

I heard about that! Isn't it lame? Whedon NEEDS a new project. Actually, he just needs to revive Firefly. Every time I think about its untimely demise, I want to go into mourning. (You have watched Firefly, right ( ... )
