Ever think to yourself: “I want to play a game that doesn’t exist?”

No?

Oh.

Never mind, here are some games I wanna see:

SIEGE OF THE DEAD

After playing through a reasonably terrifying section of Resident Evil 4 where the player and a trigger-happy Spaniard have to defend a wooden cabin from hordes of maniacs, I realised that the world is ( Read more... )

I'm certain you will already be familiar with this, but it's been a personal gripe of mine for some time now. Back in the Olden Days, about a hundred years or so ago, back in the day of black and green screens, someone put out a game for the Apple II (and perhaps other systems) called "Autoduel ( ... )

I recall playing/reading a Car Wars gamebook many years ago, I think it was called Battle Road and it was pretty damned tremendous. Considering how many racing games out there focus so much on modifying vehicles, it's strange that there are so few (none at all?) combat-driving games featuring the same level of detail. I mean, there was Rock n Roll Racing on the SNES and the Spy Hunter revamp on the PS1, but they were both quite limited in their own way.

The game you're talking about I could envision as being played both on-foot and in-vehicle. The emphasis being on striking the balance between swapping from one vehicle to another as new ones become available, or upgrading a single vehicle until it becomes the road-going equivalent of a Flying Fortress.

But hey, this might happen.

Mad Max 4 released on cinema.
Game released to accompany it.
Game is shit but sells incredibly well anyway.
Publishers say "Hey, people buy brum-brum-bang-bang game!"
Developers make many brum-brum-bang-bang games.
The end.

First of all, I want to see a revamped version of the original Terminator DOS game (1990, Bethesda) I just told you about. Free roam around LA, play as the Terminator or Reese (maybe even Sarah, for that extra challenge), know that your opponent is roaming the city in real-time with you, gearing up and stalking you. Every so often, you run into each other (once one of you feels strong enough to confront the other) and you duke it out in the streets, drawing more and meaner law enforcement as the damage to infrastructure piles up and the body count mounts. The emphasis here would be on uninterrupted real-time immersion in a 3D city--no missions beyond the ultimate mission. Need weapons? Roll a gun store. Need hardware? Smash through a hardware store. Wounds got you down? Steal some gauze and morphine. As the Terminator, you'd need less survival equipment, but perhaps you'd also have less options for concealment, dialog--you'd be all march and smash. As Reese, you're considerably weaker, but you can blend in more, reason with ( ... )
