The streetlights reflected off of the rain-soaked road as Jiyong and
Youngbae got out of the car and made their way inside of the
restaurant quickly.Jiyong gaped at the extravagant interior; it was filled with
aquariums and had a chandelier in the center.
"Youngbae, this place is way too expensive!" Jiyong whispered, scared to even think of what the food might cost.Youngbae merely shot him a smile. "Hey, I said I was gonna pay, alright? Calm down."Jiyong sighed, realizing that it was obvious Youngbae had more money; he was successful.
The two men were soon escorted to a table near the chandelier.
As they browsed through the menu, they made casual conversation.
Youngbae was in the process of recording his new album, and was taking dance classes daily.
"Aren't you tired..?" Jiyong asked in awe, as producing alone tired him out.
Youngbae nodded and took a sip of water. "Well, of course, but it's all worth it in the end, you know...? The reactions of the fans...it's what I live for!"
Jiyong forced a smile.
Of course he was happy for his friend, but in the back of his mind, he was jealous of him.
Why couldn't he be happy with his job?
Youngbae ended up ordering a steak, while Jiyong settled for a salmon dish.
Jiyong rubbed his temples after giving the waitress his menu.
"Youngbae...I need some wine..." he mumbled, eyes closed.
Youngbae merely nodded and looked around the large restaurant, looking for a sommelier.
Soon enough, a young man with a burgundy vest and sleek black hair emerged from the back of the restaurant, and served wine to a table not far from theirs.
Once the man was done his business at the other table, Jiyong leaned a bit out of his seat.
"Excuse me?" he asked.
The handsome man advanced to their table, smiling, his dimples becoming visible.
"How can I help you?"
"Which wine would you reccommend to go with a salmon dish?"
Without even a hint of hesitation, the tall man answered.
"I recommend oak-aged chardonnay! Shall I fetch you some?"
Jiyong smiled softly and nodded.
"Yes, please. That would be great."
"I'll be right back, then."
With that, the sommelier retreated to the back once more.
Youngbae gaped.
"That guy's voice was so cool!" he exclaimed.
Jiyong chuckled.
"Yeah, it was..."
--------------------------------------
Jiyong's anger was starting to surface once again.
Both his and Youngbae's dinners had arrived, yet they hadn't seen the sommelier since Jiyong asked for wine.Jiyong chewed his dinner grumpily, looking around for the tall man."Ji...sit down.." Youngbae said, not wanting his friend to get too upset over the issue.
But Jiyong wasn't going to let it go.
"Hey...I see him..." he squinted and stood up, looking at the other end of the restaurant.
The man was standing at a table that seated 4 pretty ladies, laughing and flirting.
Even worse, he was pouring them wine.
"Yah! What about me?" he called out.
Youngbae tugged his arm, trying to get him to sit down.
"Quit it! We're in a fancy restaurant, you know!" he blushed, embarassed by his friend's behaviour.
Jiyong shook Youngbae's hand from his arm and walked to the other side of the restaurant, to the table where the man was standing.
He approached him, fists at his side.
"It's been 40 fucking minutes! Did you have to stomp on the grapes and bottle it yourself?" he growled out, glaring up at the man.
Everyone in the restaurant became silent and stared in their direction.
Youngbae, on the far side, facepalmed.
The man's eyes widened.
"Excuse me? How dare you talk to me like that!"
Jiyong grabbed on to the wine bottle in his hands.
"Just give me the wine! I've waited long enough!
Two waiters ran to their side, pulling Jiyong away.
The bottle fell to the floor, breaking into little shards.
"Get him out of here." growled the man, giving Jiyong one last cold glare.
The two waiters nodded, gripping Jiyong's arms. "Yes, Seunghyun sshi."
---------------------------------------------------
"What got into you, Jiyong ah...?" asked Youngbae, a hand on Jiyong's shoulder.
They were sitting in Youngbae's car, outside the restaurant.
"I'm stressed out, Bae...I just need some rest..."
Youngbae glanced at his watch.
"Well, it's 11...I say you should go to bed too."
He started the car and began driving in the direction of Jiyong's apartment.
"Ji...maybe you should ask Yang sajang-nim for time off.."
Jiyong shook his head.
"He already gave me a month extension...I can't do that..."
"Oh...well...maybe you should take the advice I gave you earlier...you know, about finding a singer with the voice you're looking for."
Jiyong nodded.
"I'll try."
Youngbae soon parked in front of Jiyong's apartment complex.
"Well, we're here...Take it easy, alright?"
Jiyong nodded and gave Youngbae a hug.
"Thanks for tonight...and sorry for ruining it..."
Jiyong didn't allow for an answer, and slammed the car door shut.
As Jiyong made his way up the stairs, he felt himself start to cry.
It had to be the first time in years.
He wiped his tears with the back of his hand as he reached the second floor.
Hearing footsteps, Jiyong looked up with cloudy eyes to see a man unlocking the door to apartment #234.
He turned around, wide-eyed at Jiyong.
"You..." he whispered, his eyes darkening.
"Shit..." Jiyong answered back.
Just his luck.
He lived next to the sommelier from the restaurant.
The man with the beautiful singing and talking voice.
