Anyone know of anywhere relatively cheap to stay in Kyoto for Golden Week? Let's say... 20,000 per person for 2 nights NOT including meals. Or is that unheard of during Golden Week?

EDIT: Decided to go the hostel route, AND we're taking overnight buses to and from. Money saved for beers when we get there! Thanks all!

I've got a friend coming to visit me in a few weeks, and she's got her heart set on all-night karaoke. Can anyone tell me how this works? The last time I went to Jankara at the start of "free time", they told me they were full. Apologies for this dumb question - does anyone know where the JR buses leave from kyoto station bound for tokyo?

I was sent a ticket by my agent, but it doesnt seem to have a departure TIME on it - does that mean I can get on any? if so, does anyone know where I can find a schedule in english?

I've recently heard about an English teacher in Japan who's been diagnosed with a rare disease that requires a bone marrow transplant, but of course there aren't very many non-japanese donors over here, so there's a drive on at the moment to get foreign people to sign up for the bone marrow register to try and help optimise his chances ( Read more... )
