Hello! I'm neither Canadian nor an expat, but I am British ex-expat who's married to a Kiwi from Northland *lol* spot the R Tucker Thompson in my icon - we saved his family the ridiculously expensive trip to the UK by marrying in NZ too, and before that we lived in Sydney.

Basically I met him here, went to Aussie with him when his visa ran out and returned to the UK 3 years later (married) to begin the great money-saving scheme that will hopefully set us up nicely when we move to NZ in 2-3 years' time. Happy to chat about anything and everything :)

Well, given the value of the NZ dollar and the value of the British pound, I'd say you won't have much trouble saving enough to live comfortably! Do you know where you'd like to settle?

*nodnod* Every time we look at houseprices we see that for the price of our current home we could get something twice the size in NZ! I have a dream of mortgage-free.. or maybe buying a small business.. dunno yet :)

Originally it was going to be somwhere near Whangarei (where Rob grew up), but his dad's about to migrate to the US and his mum & brother have moved to Christchurch, so it'll probably be down that way now.

I am a Chinese born Peruvian living in Sydney. I met my kiwi boyfriend (from Gisborne) while living in Auckland, some years ago. Ah! I heart NZ; it's so nice and unpretentious :)

We might be moving to the northern hemisphere ourselves XD But just for a little while: it's way too nice in this side of the world, I think ;)

Welcome! Canadian expat living in Sydney, here. I came to Australia in 2000 to work on a 9-month contract, and six years later I'm still here, with an Aussie husband and no plans to leave :-)

Funny how that happens, eh?
Where in Canada are you from?

Ahhh, military brat? :) My mom and dad are both from the Maritimes (Saint John and Sydney, respectively) and we got transfered around alot too, although I was so young that I really grew up in Ottawa.

I'm a teacher. What do you do?

i met my boyfriend on LJ and he's coming back home with me but as im an irish citizen also, there is a good chance ill be back on this side of the world at some point.
ive met a good few canadians on my travels and i have to say, after us NZers they are the nicest most genuine people! i love canadians :)
i was born in new plymouth, moved to christchurch when i was twelve but i will be moving to wellington to go to college. so im not quite sure where home is now!
anyway, the point of this rambling comment is hello and welcome to the community.

Hi Ellen, and thanks for the welcome!

Thanks for the uplifting words about Canadians. Isn't it always nice to be thought well-of? I can honestly say that the NZers I've met have been mostly friendly and willing to go out of their way to help you. Great people!

How do you like Ireland? I've always wanted to visit the place where so many of my ancestors came from. Luckily my husband shares my enthusiasm for travel, so the only obsticle we face is the cost of getting off this rock! LOL

You're coming "home" this October? That's very kewl... maybe we'll meet someday! Is your Irish bf coming with you? My husband has never been to Canada before and I'm dying to get him there and show him my own little corner of the world. He wants to see a real squirrel, beaver, and moose! LOL It's going to be a lot of fun showing him around.

Anyway, thanks for the warm welcome. I hope we can chat more in the future!!

Jennifer

(tho i think ireland will always be number one with him)
