I guess considering things did not work out with my husband due to his depression and self-pity that made him behave like a jerk more often than not. I had mentioned in my journal dated April 8 that I had seen some people carrying flags and marching down Khristatik St. and had found out later that a head of the eastern region of Ukraine had been arrested for bribing someone. He was a very big supporter of Yanakovych, the former Prime Minister who lost to the current President Yushchenko.

Romeo and I have made it safely back to MA, but not without some snafus along the way! We left the condo a little latter than I had hoped, and then there was traffic on the way to the airport, so we wound up getting there an hour latter than I had hoped. I can’t believe I’m leaving in Tuesday! The last six months have just flown by. I have so many mixed emotions about leaving. I will be sad to leave the people I met here. I will miss living in this beautiful city and seeing everything that has become so familiar now. Even the people I never spoke with, but saw working in the same places I pass ( Read more... )

I decided to go back to St. Michael’s and St. Sofia’s yesterday.  I had gone to both churches the first time I came to Kiev in December 2003, so I had put off going again.  I had walked by both churches many times and almost forgot how spectacular they are!  They are located a short distance across from each other, one block up hill from ( Read more... )

Vlad and I went to the Exposition Center Saturday.  It’s a very large complex with a number of buildings, fountains, walking paths and a man made pond.  The buildings are beautiful in a Soviet way, since it was built under Stalin in the 50’s.  There are many “hammer and sickle” details on the buildings and columns.
