Very little is new in life. A few random notes to keep this thing updated:
-Saw Grindhouse opening weekend, Easter Sunday. A nice way to spend three-and-a-half hours, although I don't think my friends quite came out of it with their sanity intact. Poor Miss Kou and Mister E... I don't think either came out with their sanity intact. My bad. I

You missed the word "boring" between "with" and "people." The homeschool advantage is that she's never had it made plain to her that she's not supposed to like anyone interesting. Abuse your advantage, kid!

We start off the film with a good half hour setup, with some interesting characters, a good premise... then drop everything and instead hang around with four girls I wanted to beat with a tire iron the second they came onscreen... That, and, really (avoiding spoilers in case anyone sees this who hasn't seen it ^^; ), I've never seen a movie that misuses Kurt Russel before... the guy's a presence, how could he not make an impression in the film ( ... )

He thinks this because he lives in rural Maine which is unfortunetly populated by people without these qualities and who do not value them very much. Which is fucking depressing.

It's probably easy for me to say this because I spent most of my childhood moving around (no my parents are not military, but they might as well be), but my advice would be for him to go to college somewhere that's not rural Maine. Like a large city or something. From the looks of his writing, I'd say that he's at least as smart as most of the people who go here, which is on a similar academic level as Harvard, Princeton, and Yale.
This may be something of a stretch, since New York City is more or less as precise an opposite to rural Maine as you'll find on the East Coast, (and even if you hate rural Maine, it would be something of a culture shock) but it might be worth considering to transfer to the General Studies program here at Columbia. The social networking part of my brain says "So it is NYC, they probably have a Nazi party..." and the Jewish part of my brain starts making noises about scariness and running quickly in the other direction.

I believe noises were made about transferring to U Southern Maine in Portland.

No, can't say I've gotten seriously into Heroes, to be honest. I don't hate it or anything, I just can't get into it, myself. Kind of half the reason I don't mind losing cable: I'm kind of a TV cynic (heck, the only reason I even watch Drive is that it stars Nathan Fillon... well, that, and car chases with conspiracy mixed in can be fun :P).
Nice to see folks still read this LJ, at least!

All the former Firefly people seem to star in romantic comedies, movies I can't watch because they would be too icky for me or things which are on cable and I am televisionless so I cannot watch.
You don't update that often and you usually say interesting things about movies, lit, college and your mental health. This merits reading.

You were just waiting for me to comment to this quote. For those of you who dont know me I am NOT this girl that is spoken of. I am a friend of the Lj-er who just happened to be Homeschooled. You havent scared her off probly because of the same reason why you havent scared me off yet. Most homeschoolers (those who are not taught through the Bible) look at things differently. True we havent had the "people interaction" that public schools offer, I think that is makes us to be comfortable with who we are and not conform to what everyone else is.
We are different and proud of it since we were not BRAINWASHED by the public school system.
