Very little is new in life. A few random notes to keep this thing updated:

-Saw Grindhouse opening weekend, Easter Sunday. A nice way to spend three-and-a-half hours, although I don't think my friends quite came out of it with their sanity intact. Poor Miss Kou and Mister E... I don't think either came out with their sanity intact. My bad. I ( Read more... )

Well, for me Death Proof is more of a problem of promise. Not just the fact that he kind of loses the whole 70's vibe after a short while (save for a pure Russ Meyer-ish ending... C'mon, the man was the person whostarted this whole retro project, how could he be the one to lose the 70s vibe of it all?!), but that he sets up a plot and never freaking does anything with it!

We start off the film with a good half hour setup, with some interesting characters, a good premise... then drop everything and instead hang around with four girls I wanted to beat with a tire iron the second they came onscreen... That, and, really (avoiding spoilers in case anyone sees this who hasn't seen it ^^; ), I've never seen a movie that misuses Kurt Russel before... the guy's a presence, how could he not make an impression in the film?!

...Ahem. Sorry. Been looking to give a little rant about that one ^^;

Still, if they actually are released together as a whole on DVD, I'd still at least watch the first half hour of it before skipping ahead. It was a damn good setup that just didn't go anywhere...

Dude, I totally agree about the second batch of girls. The first ones were both attractive and somewhat likable, while the second ones? Jeesh. Part of me thought that this was Tarantino's idea of a mean joke. The girls that you like, get killed off abruptly, and then the second one's, you're like, "Yes. Kill them now. Kill them!" and well, you know what happens.
