Very little is new in life. A few random notes to keep this thing updated:

-Saw Grindhouse opening weekend, Easter Sunday. A nice way to spend three-and-a-half hours, although I don't think my friends quite came out of it with their sanity intact. Poor Miss Kou and Mister E... I don't think either came out with their sanity intact. My bad. I ( Read more... )

Out of curiosity, why do you think you'd scare the girl off? You seem like an incredibly interesting and unique person, which is something which might be confusing and intimidating to girls who aren't interesting and unique as well, but seriously man... I don't know you, but I didn't start reading your journal for nothing.

He thinks this because he lives in rural Maine which is unfortunetly populated by people without these qualities and who do not value them very much. Which is fucking depressing.

Jesus. I live with a guy from rural Maine here at Columbia. (By mistake. We have a mutual friend.) He seems completely fucking normal on the outside, but worships Hitler. Like, wants to be Hitler when he grows up. Yet isn't half as interesting as you'd hope someone so out there to be.

It's probably easy for me to say this because I spent most of my childhood moving around (no my parents are not military, but they might as well be), but my advice would be for him to go to college somewhere that's not rural Maine. Like a large city or something. From the looks of his writing, I'd say that he's at least as smart as most of the people who go here, which is on a similar academic level as Harvard, Princeton, and Yale.

This may be something of a stretch, since New York City is more or less as precise an opposite to rural Maine as you'll find on the East Coast, (and even if you hate rural Maine, it would be something of a culture shock) but it might be worth considering to transfer to the General Studies program here at Columbia. The social networking part of my brain says "So it is NYC, they probably have a Nazi party..." and the Jewish part of my brain starts making noises about scariness and running quickly in the other direction.

I believe noises were made about transferring to U Southern Maine in Portland.

Actually, this Nazi guy is more of a freak who was WAY spoiled as a kid and got to be as selfish as he wanted to be, whereas his parents are really nice, but weak-willed. He almost always dates Jewish girls (which there are lots of here), so he's obviously bullshit. Even though this is one of those rare cases where someone not adhering to their own principles is a good thing, it still makes me think even less of him. That said, I try to be compassionate about it, but am not always successful.

Portland (Oregon? Or is there one in Maine?) might be a smoother transition for him. Definitely a more progressive place, and the Pacific Northwest has much more in common with Maine, as far as the land and climate itself, if not so much the culture. I'm someone who didn't know he was so fond of nature until he moved here and started missing the trees, (which we've pretty much only got in Central Park) so I could only imagine what a rural Maine to New York City would feel like.

So you should tell this to evitagenspace in the second person. Not me in ( ... )

Portland, ME. I have heard very good things about Portland, ME culturally from the people that I know in Portland, ME. However the job prospects seem to be slightly worse than upstate, NY, which is difficult.

Also, you know too many people I know. (Knowing both evitagenspace and Hugin and Munin is somehow amusing to me.)

Ha! I knew I'd seen you from somewhere. Most likely Hugin and Munin's journals. I've actually met none of them in person, but friended them for similar reasons; for being interesting people.

I actually friended you for interesting person qualities. I will also probably be transferring to CUNY City College which is awful near you. No pressure in terms of friending me back but if in fact I do end up in NYC I intend poke you.

I am friending you back, and no pressure is required. Dude, we could definitely meet up if you find yourself in the city. the CUNY City College you are talking about, is it the one that is a few stops up the 1 train from Columbia? Like 120-something street?

Yes, I think it is 130th-ish street. There is actually a stop called City College. I think it is ~5 stops on from Columbia on the same line.
