The owls are not what they seem.

As it's finally come out in the UK (which has had the first season for years, but nothing else) I bought the rather gorgeous Twin Peaks "definitive gold box edition" set, meaning that I'm finally able to see the 90s equivalent of Lost, something I've wanted to do for years. I mean, David Lynch doing a TV series? Who wouldn't want to watch that?

It's ( Read more... )

Oh Twin Peaks. I grew up about a half hour from where it was filmed in Washington, so way back then, 5 year old me watched it with my parents (I have awesome parents). That show is effing amazing, and now I want coffee and cherry pie...

And yeah, I'm in love with 11 and Amy. I don't think 11 is my favorite as of yet, but he's managed to put troughton, eccleston, and tennant all into one and I love it. 11th Hour was a fantastic opening episode; the only one I can think of that comes close is Rose, but there were some really cheesy parts in it (plastic Mickey).

Moffat being in charge has brought on a quicker pace, a ton of wit and charm, and less use of Murray Gold (I love him, but sometimes he got overused). I watched the confidential for last week's epi and I kind of love how Moffat has compared DW to being a fairy tale.

Wow, that's kind of amazing that you grew up so close to the actual Twin Peaks. I'm not sure what I would've made of it as a five year-old - been scarred for life most probably!

Eleven's my second favourite. Five is very hard to beat, but Eleven does have potential to do so. And yeah, Rose was really good, but does suffer from those first episode jitters, some massively cheesy moments and poor CGI.

You're right, Murray Gold's music is being used differently and I like it.

Pretty much word to nearly everything you said about Benny. Lisa Bowerman is *so* great in that part that I probably like her even more than a few of the audio Doctors. Where the series really gets good though is the fifth series. I'm in the middle of the sixth one at the moment... and there wasn't a single weak one since then ( ... )

Honestly, I think the Benny range is probably better than the main Doctor Who range. It's certainly more consistent in quality. And Lisa Bowerman is always, always brilliant, yes. I'm halfway through the fifth series (pausing to read A Life Worth Living) and both plays have been excellent, especially The Bone of Contention.

Yeah, I thought Peter was supposed to be older than a baby judging by Life During Wartime, but I thought it was best not to dwell on it and young!Ms. Jones and had a blast. I especially loved Benny's speech to the Daleks about how rubbish they could be.

It'd be a perfect TV series, it really would. Someone needs to make it happen, because the characters and the setting and the general universe of it is amazing and crying out for a TV version.

Bob is supremely scary. And I can't wait to see the final episode, I've heard that it's seriously fucked-up and I'm dying to find out why.

I hear you on Eleven and Amy. The franchise feels properly invigorated, and for those of us (like me) who were feeling a bit jaded towards the end of the Tennant years that's what it needed to be.

Matt Smith has a completely mad, loose, gangly charm about him and a charisma I didn't expect. He's taken me very much by surprise by being quite as good as he is. I'm actively looking forward to the rest of the series. Amy, also, is lovely, if slightly odd.

Gah. Looking forward to Glee, but feels like so long since it's been on I'm sure I'll have forgotten half of what already happened!

Reinvigorated is exactly right, yeah. I don't think I've been this excited about Doctor Who since series three.

I agree, Matt Smith is hugely charismatic - he's completely mesmerising to watch it.

Don't worry about forgetting what's happened in Glee, you get a really funny recap of everything at the beginning of the episode!
