What to do with unwanted teas?

Jun 02, 2008 13:04

After several years of collecting, I now have about 25 types of tea. The problem: I only like about half of them. The other half were gifts, experiments, etc. Because I don't like them, the boxes are nearly full. There's no chance I'm going to consume them any time soon ( Read more... )

Depends on how they're packaged. If they're still fresh, then I tend to give them away to folk who either like or want to try them. I throw out what goes stale.

Whatcha got? :-)

Both! If it's really old, I tend to pitch it. Tea does get stale & is best fresh. But... if it's not as old, I'll tend to foist it off on other people who like tea. I've a friend who drinks tea *all* of the time, so, she tends to get a lot of my cast-offs.

I also experiment with them. When I reach for a cup of hot tea, I'm usually looking for a particular *flavor.* But, when I reach for iced tea, I'm looking for cool & refreshing liquid. This makes it a lot easier to experiment with iced tea. We had a raspberry tea that was kind of wimpy in the raspberry department, so, I tended to try to use it up in iced tea over the summers. This obviously works best with teas that are either so mild that you don't mind blowing away the flavor or are so heavily spiced that a bag or two goes a long way. Suddenly instead of having an uninspired cuppa, you have intriguing iced tea. :)

Toss them. They go stale after a few months.

Hm... fair enough. I guess I don't have enough of a sense of taste / smell (don't ask, long story) to notice the difference.

I'd take the orange spice and ginger tea.

cortejo had a big tea party cum tea swap. Everyone brought the tea they didn't want and were free to take home whatever they did want. There have been clothing swaps of a similar type. I think swaps are great ways to give away stuff. The clothing swap was great because the stuff that didn't get taken went to charity.

Wow, that's a great idea! I don't like fruity tea, but it would probably be good cold.
