What to do with unwanted teas?

Jun 02, 2008 13:04

After several years of collecting, I now have about 25 types of tea. The problem: I only like about half of them. The other half were gifts, experiments, etc. Because I don't like them, the boxes are nearly full. There's no chance I'm going to consume them any time soon ( Read more... )

Mandarin Orange Spice and Ginger Peach would make excellent iced tea choices -- I use about 1 flavored tea bag to 2 plain black tea bags.

I won't ask for any of these because it seems silly to ship partial boxes of tea from Montreal.

If I remember, I could probably bring them down to Glenn Linn for you. They're a bit old, but you're welcome to them if you want them (and, like I say, if I can remember).

Eh... don't worry about it. I'm currently running into the same problem at home, and, I'm out of storage room for sure!

There's yet another option I'm planning on using to rid myself of some tea. I'm having a tea party (at some point). Scones, clotted cream, finger sandwiches, homemade jam... and drink my tea. Please. :)

I'd happily vanish the Cardamom Mulberry Chai, the top tea, and the Ginseng chai to try making into Iced Tea, unless someone else wants it...

It shall be done, assuming I remember, and assuming I'm allowed to take loose tea across the border. Any idea whether "tea" counts as "produce"?

Will you be at Glenn Linn? Can I bring it to you then?

Cool, I don't think so, yes, and yes, respectively!

Of course I saw another problem with your selections.... not enough tea in them, just a lot of silly fruits & spices ;->

I should have my oolong, jasmine black, and peppermint on hand at Pennsic if you'd care to try some!

That's because I *like* my actual teas. *grin*

Frankly, though, when I want good tea, I tend to go out for it. My sense of taste and smell is so poor (long story, don't ask) that when I'm by myself and want a cup, I'm perfectly content with store-brand teabags. I need to be in a particular mood (and not distracted) to appreciate good tea.

Fair enough!

While I like loose teas for some flavors (oolong, lcyheee as mentioned) I can never get the green tea right. Besides, there are just so many decent tea bags out there.

Monkey would like the ginger peach, and I would like to give the blueberry and violet a try :)

Another thing to try is to use them in cooking or baking. Any recipe that calls for water can have tea substituted for it --- and as long as you pick the tea to match the recipe, it can have a nice impact...
